Thank you for the reply. The fuel is fresh premium. The unit is used regularly. Yes, I will price out a carb kit

    J. D. LX277 2004 Kawasaki making oil

Thank you for the information. In the past I have changed the pulse pump and even installed an electric in-line solenoid shut-off to prevent the fuel from siphoning from the tank to no avail. So, yes, I may have to visit the needle and seat part. In this last event the oil level is up...

    J. D. LX277 2004 Kawasaki making oil

Gasoline contaminating the engine oil. I suspect the problem is with the electric fuel shut off solenoid at the bottom of the carburetor though I am not sure. A new solenoid from John Deere is ridiculous... Over $300 Canadian, too much to try it and see if it helps. Electrical continuity is...

    crank case magnet

Yes... I place small craft magnets in almost everything I have apart. Many applications come with magnets, perhaps on the drain bung, and it is nice to see those metal filings trapped and not circulating. If the case is aluminium, you can clean carefully and silicon the magnet into a safe place...

JD 4440 won't start when hot

Circa 1982 John Deere 4440 - Clicking heard but starter won't spin when hot. After sitting for, say, a half hour it starts normally. Starter armature maybe? Thank you in advance for any input.

    John Deere 655 755 756 855 856 hydrostatic trans creeps

I got lucky: When checking the cam for wear, I found that it was loose on the square shaft that it was mounted to. I was able to tighten the bolt enough to make the cam fit snug on the shaft. Also I found an eccentric adjustment on the mount that holds the roller bearing. I was able to adjust...

    John Deere 655 755 756 855 856 hydrostatic trans creeps

Thank you for the reply. Can this part be 'built up' to original specs/shimmed or is replacement the only option?

    John Deere 655 755 756 855 856 hydrostatic trans creeps

John Deere 856 newly acquired: Hydro-static trans creeps in forward or reverse. I have tried lengthening and shortening the rods by two turns and seems to make no difference. Here is a link to the JD Parts breakdown...

JD 4440 1980 Quad Range Hard to Shift

Here's the scoop: Tractor difficult to shift between (synchro?) gears. Physical drag on shift lever. Ranges work fine. Little or no cuttings in screen filter. No unusual noises or grinding sounds. This tractor may come up for sale as-is and I am curious what I may be faced with. Thank you in...

Exactly the kind of information I am looking for... Thanks a bunch. I will see if I can find the 'JD Forum' and give that a whirl.

    J. D. 4440 Quad Transmission Hard to Shift

It is my brother-in-law's tractor and this potential deal came up in casual conversation. With these stupid blizzards passing through I haven't got across the river to give the tractor a good 'once-over'. Is there something I should look for in regards to the cab mounts? I assume that the...

    J. D. 4440 Quad Transmission Hard to Shift

Potential purchase for an as-is J. D. 4440 with transmission issues. Owner says that the low and reverse gears are difficult to access and problem is getting worse. Dealer says repair is in the top shaft region and could cost upwards of CA $12,000 to fix. Anyone out there had the same problem...

John Deere model 855/856 (late '80's) review/cold start

Thanks for the information. Turns out I was able to troubleshoot the wiring with the diagrams sent. Normal operation of the the heater appears to be to place key in the 'on' position. The relay is time/temperature sensitive and will hold the manifold heater on for a period of time if cold...
