    It will somewhat depend on how much the engine is loaded and governor operation. We have a gas and a diesel 550. The gas uses less fuel per hour raking hay, than my 20 hp. briggs and straton mower does mowing grass. The diesel uses less fuel than that. It is unbelievable how much work these...

    550 Brake Question

    The slip plate i have dries hard like paint. Graphite will do just fine, you may have to brush it on with a small brush to get it to stay on good. Just be sure every working part is clean of rust. There is a torque spec for those bolts,(Its not much) but what you want to is just flatten out...

    Some 550's the gauge cluster will work either way if you switch the wires. At least on one of our 550's I know it will for sure.I have done it. It is a 65 model. Rick Stair or Mark Korves can help you.

    Over tightening the drum bolts, (especially the three in the middle) will cause your problem.It distorts the drum, and causes brake drag. I learned this the hard way.     Oliver 550 questions (possible first tractor)

    We have a 64 and a 65 550. The 64 model has the front lever. The 65 has the rear. Every front loader 550 i have seen has the rear.

    Check the 3 inner brake drum bolts on each side.(its thirty something ft. pounds, cant remember exactly)Just a little more than flattening out the lockwashers is close.     Yes,i have an original 550 pulley. People around here used them mostly for running wood saws. My owners manual shows how to use it and different ways to mount it. The Oliver pulleys are made a little heavier than the Fords.

    Whats the deal with these tractors? I have only seen pictures of a couple. What was special about them? Did they have the Perkins engine in them? Was it power steering that made them special?
