    bead breaker

I do appreciate all the feedback, I think I will go ahead and order one today from Northern tools. I do the backhoe thing to break the bead on larger tires but I thought this would make it easier to break the bead and change a tube without taking the tire off the tractor.

    bead breaker

Anyone ever use this type of bead breaker? It's made by AME. Thinking of getting one to help with tractor tires. Thought this might make it easier than using a tire sledge or slide hammer type bead breaker.

    Totally OT (ON topic)

I'm only 54 and for a while I was right on track to retire about age 65, worked outside the farm to make extra and save for retirement but at 51 cancer blew that retirement dream right out of the water. The cancer took everything I had saved for my retirement and more and left me disabled. I can...

    Turbo

you are correct that air moving across an open pipe will in fact cause a vacuum but a flow of air is only possible if the opposite end of the pipe is also open, in this case the opposite end of the pipe is closed by the engine itself. This is also basic physics.

    Turbo

Haven't heard that old wives tale in 20 years or more, if a real mechanic tells you that he's probably pulling your leg for a laugh, think about it, where's the air coming into the exhaust going to go?? maybe through the turbo and into the cylinder through an open exhaust valve but then there's...

    Electric vs. Gas powered welder

If I only had to weld in my shop then all I would use would be my electric Lincoln Idealarc 250, great machine but doing welding jobs away from here I use a trailer mounted Miller Big 40. Striking an arc is just a small part of the job and you can get used to using either machine.

    Fordson Dextra?

Looks like a Dexta to me, can't tell what year it is, been 20 years since I owned one of those. Some of the other guys on here may be able to help you more with details about it. Around here $1600-$2000 is about an average price for a Dexta that runs ok with good tires.

    Weather question

Wish we could get some snow here, we've had maybe 8 inches all this winter. Had a lot of real cold temps but not much snow, haven't had to plow the road all winter. Drilled some post holes the other day about 4 foot deep and the ground is bone dry, not even enough moisture to freeze. If we...

One Ton Trucks - Dump Conversion

The only 1 ton trucks to avoid would be the 1980 and 1981 Fords, they had what a lot of guys call a swiss cheese frame, we bought a new 1981 F350 and the frame buckled right behind the cab with only 18000 miles on it, seen several of these models with frame damage from low speed collisions. The...

    Best tractor?

if I had to choose by which tractor had given me the least amout of problems it would have to be a toss up between my 59' Fordson Power Major and my A/C 7020, both very reliable and over the years not many problems.

    Speaking of coffee...

johnlobb, your post brought back memories of my grandad, my grandma would boil the coffee in a pot and get it real hot, my grandad would always pour it from the cup into a saucer add a little goat milk and strain it through his long bushy mustach. always got a kick outa watching that when I was...

    road clearing

around here if you wait on the county to clear the roads you're gonna be a few days waiting. We are kind of tucked away out in the part of the county where there's not too many people so the county doesn't really consider us as a priorty when it comes to clearing snow. If you need to get to town...

    powerstroke saga update........

Sounds exactly like the problems I had with my 2000 7.3 F350, I had another truck here same motor that had been wrecked so parts wasn't a problem, after changing everything like you did it finally turned out to be the high pressure oil pump had gone bad, it would run but kept losing power and...

    Bidding contract question.

In the past I have worked as a contracting officer on civilian and military contracts. Probably the worst mistake you can make is accepting a bid based solely on lowest bidder, that almost always will not end well. The most important thing to bear in mind is getting the best value for the...
