    Saved some hay today

Long but rewarding day here in Southwestern Pa...hay and equipment in the barns and no one is too worse for the wear. Woke up this morning at 5am to rain and listened to it rain for 2 hours straight. Thought the hay was gone - but took a shot anyway since we had to get it off the field...

Pictures from our Wedding (at the Farm)

Well this year flew by. We finally got our wedding photos back from the big day in September, and I thought I would share some pictures of warmer weather, (and to keep it on topic, we used our Super C for some of the photos). - Jameson

contour plowing on a sidehill - help

Thanks everyone for the replies. Sometimes it helps to get out of my own head and hear what others think. Don't have the option of no-till, or a new plow, or of even hiring it out (not many guys left farming around here). I do need to plow less square furrows - I'll have to pay more...

Big Sale this weekend in Waynesburg

I usually go (our farm is about 25 minutes north of Waynesburg) but have too much to do this weekend (and also no money) so I'm going to pass this year. It has been a good sale in years past although I was surprised at the increase in commercial equipment last year and the decrease in general...

contour plowing on a sidehill - help

Agreed, I've resorted to this when I just can't get the sod to turn right. Do you come back the next year and throw it uphill then? I'm always worried about pushing all my topsoil down hill and I really don't like the dead furrow that I end up leaving on the top side of the hill. This might...

contour plowing on a sidehill - help

Well maybe, I usually strike my first furrow in low 3 (tractor is an 8speed) which is pretty slow. Once I get to plowing I usually plow in 1 or 2 high (5th and 6th gear)

contour plowing on a sidehill - help

Ok, so I am moldboard plowing with a 3 bottom 14" semi mount plow (jd f135H I think). I have been using this plow for about 5 years now and am self taught when it comes to plowing so it's been a learn as I go process. My fields usually look halfway decent when they are on relatively flat...

    teach me about tedders

I set my haybine skids all the way down because I wanted tall stubble to try to dry this stuff. The knives are sharp with good registry to the cutter bar. This has been an extremely wet summer and the first cutting died in the field and matted down and the second cutting came up through it...

    teach me about tedders

We are having some good(dry) haymaking weather here in PA and I've finally gotten some hay made. It was so thick and matted that I was constantly jamming the reel on the haybine and clogging the cutterbar from the volume of grass. I bought a 2 basket tedder to help me dry it, and I got most of...

Anyone used Best Baler Parts in Sayre, PA??

I've used them several times in years past for new knives, a plunger bearing, and some other misc. parts. It's been two years plus since I've ordered from them but I never had any issues and was actually very happy with their service (and their product). I've recommended them to others. I...

    sw pa weather

Gonna drop some this afternoon with the hope of getting it dry enough to bale Friday afternoon. Anyone else seeing what I'm seeing and taking the risk? The ground is still damp but I'm gonna try to keep the stubble as tall as possible. Wish I had a tedder but at least the rolls on the haybine...

SW PA weather - hay - frustrated

I'm curious if anyone has been able to get hay up in the western/southwestern part of Pennsylvania. I know there were about 4 good days back in early May that I missed but other than that I haven't seen anything worth even taking a chance on. The orchard grass is headed out and the Timothy...
