    My 1949 front dist. 8N has a miss at high RPM when under load. I can fiddle with the choke and make it disappear which makes me think it's not an ignition problem. Otherwise it runs like a sewing machine. I have changed points, plugs, etc. and installed new coil. I haven't rebuilt the carb...

    hydraulic lift link shaft

    I see from my manual that it is purdy far up the axle housing. Dudn't look too hard to remove the bugle and fix it right. I think I'll be able to eyeball the diffy while the bugle is off.

    The left hydraulic lift link pivot shaft is loose on my 8N. My parts diagram shows this shaft attached to the inside of the axle housing with a castle nut and cotter pin. Can this nut be reached from the access hole in the side of the hydraulic housing after the PTO lever and cover are removed?

    Bob, thanks for the info. Do you have to run a wire from the #2 connection to the Batt. terminal on the alternator? I saw a drawing of this for a Jeep one-wire alternator.
