nobody has answered about the very-low-flow of oil at the rockers ... is this flow amount normal? It took almost a minute for it to begin pooling

4010 diesel upper rap ('63 vintage)

yes did listen with a large screwdriver and also a stethoscope .. as with deisels, a lot of noise everywhere making it hard to pinpoint location... going to bale with it today, perhaps 3 hours.... keeping a close ear and fingers crossed it doesn"t get worse before 1st cut is done ... 40 acres...

    Deere 894A rake

LOL wish I could ... there is nothing left except two separate battered races... no numbers.. no balls, no seals, gonzo... apparently been going for awhile but the help never says anything...

4010 diesel upper rap ('63 vintage)

There's a constant light rap seemingly consistent with a valve. It doesn't come and go. meter shows 1586hrs, no doubt 2nd time around... disconnected and ruled out water pump, alternator, fuel pump ... didn't try hyd pump yet but doubt it's that... With stethoscope i can pick it up in the...

    Deere 894A rake

Crapped the sealed drive bearing today! The one hidden within the drive sprocket hub at the wheel location ... What part number is it? Can"t seem to locate online parts manual on deere.com and would like to come up with an OEM bearing number (ie: timken) so i can just run to napa instead of...

    4030 idling problems

IMHO A hole in engine block that a broken connecting rod created wouldn't be DRY WIT possibly oily wit. LOL and in the Deere manuals that is technically called a "Cross-Ventilated Crankcase." It's an owner-specified option available on all engines.

    Hay mowing with breakdowns

whenever our haybine is down waiting for parts, out comes the trusty JD #5 sicklebar to save the day every time. Less noisy too. Ground speed is faster on the #5 when set up correctly although 7ft-vs-9ft mathematics spoils any sense of real speed. And don't forget to also add the time used up by...

    Appliances!!!!

Frigidaire USED TO BE a decent product when General Motors owned it.. The name vanished by the early 1970's I think... It was reborn in the late 80's or early 90's and is foreign-built, as is most GE-stuff today as well. You can thank Congress and Clinton for that.... If it's not your...

4010 remotes, main control valves problem?

thanks everyone for your help... the dash decals are gone and I had no idea there was a float position available.... Although I hauled chuckwagons with 3010"s, 4010"s, and 4020"s thirty to forty years ago occasionally for neighbors, I never worked on them and never ran the hydraulics... We are...

4010 remotes, main control valves problem?

The tractor valve likes to stay in the neutral or hold or center position when haybine is on the ground cutting... The machine is designed to float along the ground with all pressure released from the hydraulics... It"s not hooked up to "power" down because there is no hose to go to the "power...

Gehl 880 sweeper drum bearing replacement

This message is a reply to an archived post by Dubv on October 05, 2010 "Gehl 880 question". Too bad I didn't see this sooner ... as you may have found out by now, there is a sealed bearing on each end of the drum shaft ... the one you "can't" see is behind the slip clutch package... it's fun...
