    Confirmed a theory & story

Some years ago, I acquired a bunch of old negatives that had been missing for decades. Lots of photos I never saw before, including these 2 of corn picking in the early 40s I believe. I had suspected the tractor and picker belonged to a neighbor that grandpa must have hired. Looking at...

    Silo update

Earlier this summer I was at the farm and went driving around to look at the crops. I went past the place where my maternal grandparents farmed. Just a corn field. The last trees and house torn down in 2011. The red arrow on the old picture shows where my vintage ranger pickup was parked...

Electric driven implements instead of PTO shaft drive ???

Deere has a option on some tractors for 480VAC powered implements. At least 1 application I am aware of is for large liquid manure spreaders. They need the power for traction drive on the tankers due to the weight. I think these are more popular in europe.

    Vintage tractor pull last week.

Posted video of the vintage tractor pull at my hometown's summer fun days I went to last week: I think this event has been rained out the past 2 years or so and it was sprinkly this year too! Lots of rain in that area this year with drowned out fields in many places.

    Plaster of paris vs spackle

I remember using Durham's water putty long ago to fill or make something (not a wall repair). You can also use "bondo" type products on things other than the dent on your fender. Used some to fill in some rough plywood subfloor in a bathroom remodel before putting down peel/stick vinyl floor...

What tractors did you drive as a kids?

First learned tractor driving on a Allis WD-45. Later drove all of the tractors on the farm: '36 Allis WC w/manure loader, '48 MM Z, IH 544, White 2-105. I think I once drove the '67 MM M670 a short distance once too (it was traded for the white when I was about 14). Somewhere in there I...

Literature---Allis Chalmers Forage Harvester Late 40's-Early 50's? Brochure

Dad and neighbors shared a blower like that. Belt drive. He'd use a WD-45 on it. I remember the one neighbor used a IH M. It had a rubber conveyor belt in the hopper instead of a chain as in that brochure. Dad found another one with PTO drive at a consignment auction and used that the last...

    Hydraulic clutch not adjustable?

Thanks. I believe this has a donut shaped slave under the throwout bearing so no fork or external cylinder. I had a shop do this as I am not up for dropping a trans. Hoping they can bleed it some more if that is the issue as I would expect dropping the trans again otherwise to get at the...

    Brushed nickel bathroom faucet

There is a lot of acidity in my water. I put in a new "brushed nickel" finish faucet maybe 10yrs ago now. Like the one it replaced, this one is corroding around the base. The finish is just plating over pot metal and the pot metal starts to be eaten away from the constant damp it seems. I...

    Hydraulic clutch not adjustable?

I have a 2004 F150 "Heritage". It has the same body as '97-'03. V6 with 5spd manual. Owned since new. I just had the original (90k) clutch replaced as I noticed it slipping a little when towing uphill last year. Now, the pedal seems you have to have it about mashed to the floor to get it...

    ID this Glencoe cultivator

That may have once had wings on it that are now removed. Dad had a 18' one with wings for many years. There is a 15' ?? one (w/o wings) in the shed at the farm he kept after his retirement auction to use on the sweetcorn patch but I am not sure he ever used it. The 18' one was originally...

Wished, I would of remembered or asked?

Good on you for that. I've had the renter ask me about tile lines a few times and at best could only offer a few things I remembered growing up. A lot of the tile put before my time or too young. Dad would have known but no maps ever seen or heard of. I was looking at old aerial photos from...

Maybe I will get kicked off for this but i have a question.

I've seen those sorts of ads. Fuzzy photo and the details in the background seem like it must be from the other side of the country from your area or the seasons are off or both.
