    3400 broken tach needle

Hi, I searched the forum with no luck so here goes. My '68 3400 gasser had a jumpy tach. It got worse when cold outside. Then the needle broke off where the thin part of the needle meets the thicker part. I epoxied it back on. Today it broke off in the same spot, then the remaining part of the...

    3400 reverse light switch

Hi, I am in the process of putting lights on my 3400. I want to incorporate backup lights into my setup. I have a standard transmission. I tried searching for a reverse light switch for the tranny but found nothing on the new holland site or this forum. Does such a switch exist? If not, has...

    Ford 3400 vertical exhaust

Just to wrap this up, I installed the pipe and all is well. I used a scrap of 2x4 and a hammer and it went in fine. Thanks for the help.

    Ford 3400 vertical exhaust

Thanks for the response. I replaced the manifold with a knockoff new one. The transition pipe is old and rusty, maybe that is why it is loose. Just got a replacement today, it is much tighter. I haven't tried to force it in yet. Any advice? I don't want to crack the cast iron by pounding the...

    Ford 3400 vertical exhaust

Hi, I have a '68 Ford 3400 3cyl gas tractor with vertical exhaust. I have an exhaust leak between the adapter pipe (number 42 on the new holland parts site drawing) and the manifold. The New Holland website does not show any gasket or clamp to provide a seal between these two parts. Am I...

    Ford 3400 Cold Start Issues

So a little research suggests I need an Echlin ST542, which can be found at NAPA. This is a 4-pole 12 volt solenoid. Seems like an easy thing to try. Maybe the contactor inside is wearing out so even though it clicks for me, I am not getting a good connection. Is that the idea? Thanks.

    Ford 3400 Holley Carb Rebuild

Success with my Holley Carb rebuild! I used the Tisco kit and had no problems. I didn't have to cut the metering gasket as my carb has the metering cover and float bowl mating surface on the same level. Got a gallon can of carb soak from NAPA and it worked fine soaking parts overnight a...

    Ford 3400 Cold Start Issues

Hi, I have a 1968 3400 3-cyl. gas tractor. Starts great when it's warm, but when it's cold I just get a click. Tapping the starter relay mounted under the battery tray pivot pin usually gets it to start. So far I have replaced the crappy old cables with new heavy cables (01 gauge IIRC). Also...

    Ford 3000 rear axle

Hi, I did this job on my '68 3400 last summer. I was able to remove the nut by hitting it with a hammer and cold chisel to turn it. It cut into the nut a little, but not too bad. Once I had the nut off, I took it to a shop and the guy pressed the axles out for me. He didn't have to remove...

Ford 3000 - odd steering problem following line replacement

Hey Random. I rebuilt the steering box on my 3400 recently. Staking the nut to the shaft is simple. The manual says to tighten the nut until all slack is removed, meaning just tight enough so the shaft can't be moved up and down, but no tighter. Then back off the nut about 1/6 turn, and...

    Ford 4500 gas

Bob, don't be afraid of trying to replace your fuel pump. I did one on my '68 3400 and it was pretty straightforward. Pump was about $35 on ebay. Clean area around pump, remove fuel lines, remove 2 bolts, stuff rag in hole then scrape away old gasket, replace pump, reattach lines. My new...

    manifold on ford 3000

I replaced the manifold on my '68 3400 gasser recently. I used a six-point socket as mentioned, but the bolt heads had rusted away enough so the socket fit pretty loose. Next smaller socket wouldn't go on but one of my metric sockets was a good fit. Mine came out pretty easy. Good luck to you.

730 series loader hydraulic fluid capacity

Hi sam, I did this job on my '68 3400 with 730 loader and I had the 9" composite filter instead of the paper. I don't know when the cutoff was when they changed to the paper type. You need a good size allen wrench to remove the drain plug, bigger than I had so I bought one. I also changed my...
