    8n camshaft distributor gear

    Thanks JMOR. Do you have any recommendations on how to go about fixing this? Such as do you think I need a new camshaft and cam distributor gear? Or would I be able to press the new gear on and be fine do you think? Or is there a way to save or pin the gear the way it is now?

    HCooke, the gear I meant was the smaller gear at the end of the camshaft, in front of the 4 bolt camshaft gear. It is a side mount distributor though...I dont know if they differ from the front mounts.

    Hello all, through some trouble shooting Ive found that the distributor gear on the front of the camshaft is slipping. My question is, whats holding this gear to the shaft? Is it just a press fit? Or is there a pin/key to help hold it? Thanks!

    Why Buy An N

    I bought my 8n for a few reasons. One, I was wanting/needing a tractor to do food plots; I found mine that ran fairly good, other than burning oil, for $800; finally my grandpa owned an 8n my whole life so there was a bit of nostalgia there. On that note, I'm still always looking for more...

    I checked the wiring. Everything looks good. I was able to get the tractor running so the battery must have been part of the issue. Still only runs for a minute or so. It does get really hot during that short time too. So hot that the radiator was steaming. Could it be shutting off because...

    Welp, I pulled the battery cables off and put the charger on it tonight. It said 6.5v on the multimeter but figured it wouldn't hurt. I also checked the fuel flow at the bolt on the bottom of the carb. Filled a quart jar in 3 minutes so I don't think flow is the issue. Unless it's downstream...

    Thanks Soundguy! I'll put the charger on the battery tonight to make sure it has a full charge. The carb seemed to be getting good flow thru it. (Out the bolt on the bottom of the bowl) I guess I'll pull the plug and test it again. Might have to pull it off and clean it out again...make sure...
