WARDS "GROUND ENGAGING GARDEN TRACTOR" hydro. shift linkage stuck

Hi. I picked up this "Wards" "Ground engaging garden tractor" "drive shaft equipped" "Hydrostatic" that had been sitting around outside for years because the owner passed on. It has a briggs twin I/C engine 18hp. Looks to me to be late 70s/early 80s. direction control lever just...

T O 20 SAT FOR DECADES THEN STARTED

Its actually been running a little while now, something like a few weeks at least. The front loader works well as does the pto and rear factory lift arms, and it runs good. Its making very short order of getting the dirt broken in my vegetable garden. The water hasn"t gotten above 160...

T O 20 SAT FOR DECADES THEN STARTED

Thanks, John....I overlooked that. Indeed those condensers are very cheap and prone to trouble. It lookslike I'll be put off for at least a couple of days as I tend to smog testing issues with my Ford truck. Found an older one to transfer the drivetrain to....that'll take care of the smog...

coil is not hot after shutting off. Because I have a spare 6v coil from an old forklift, it will be super easy to switch them out. John

T O 20 SAT FOR DECADES THEN STARTED

This ferguson is doing alright except for one thing: It will run anywhere from a couple of minutes to 5 or10 minutes, then very suddenly shut off. It happens very suddenly so that I suspect something electrical. Not long ago I gave the carb. a kit, cleaned the tank, put new fuel ine and filter...

1950 TO 20 SAT FOR DECADES THEN STARTED, blowin' coal

Well I took the good advice and put it, my arms, and those of my son, to work. Hours later, it finally freed up. I put a big pipe wrench on the top, with a 6 foot pipe for leverage, while my son had a 6 foot pipe slipped over the axle spline. It took everything we had and was not so quick to...

1950 TO 20 SAT FOR DECADES THEN STARTED, blowin' coal

Thanks for that tip. I'll be doing that today. It brings back a hazy memory about the fad water injection systemsof the late 1970s, but I believe you're onto something there. P.S. As a result of all that sitting, my Ferguson showed another product of its age: Seems I cannot steer to the...

1950 TO 20 SAT FOR DECADES THEN STARTED, blowin' coal

This thing runs and runs and runs, but now shes cuttin' loose with some coal. I might've not known except that I ran her briefly at night and now and then I could see little red coals shootin' out the muffler, random shapes and sizes...the biggest one about the size of a garden pea, but not as...

1950 TO 20 SAT FOR DECADES THEN STARTED, following up

Thanks. It sounds like theres a couple of things I did wrong...thanks for the info. I was hoping to see the arms travel upward after the pto shifter was moved forward. Tomorrow at daylight, I will try the shifting it the other way. If I cannot then see upward movement in the arms when...

1950 TO 20 SAT FOR DECADES THEN STARTED, following up

Hi. I got the TO 20 up and running again, finally, and I have to say it doesn"t sound bad. Except to say that my valve guides or seals aren"t keeping ALL the oil from making just a little smoke. Not a big deal as my plan was to service the head next year (If I kept it). Looks like I will...

TO 20 SAT FOR DECADES CARB. ON WRONG?

Thanks, Glen. It may help. This carburator is a Zenith by Bendix. It was on a 1950s Yale forklift with a small, continental 4 cylinder engine. Unfortunately, when I obtained the carb, there was no air cleaner on the lift, which left me somewhat in doubt. To top it off, I didn't take note...
