    Yes the battery is completely charged, but when I turned the key it drops to 5/6 volts. The alternator does charge. When I did try to start it, there was a little smoke from the starter, what would that be a side effect from? Low voltage? I will clean the ground cable connection right now.

    Yes it’s a gas. I’ll look more carefully into the corrosion, I used the tractor two days ago and it started fine. Unfortunately I think the John Deere batteries have been lacking in quality recently…

    Hello, when I went to start my 3020 today, it only gave clicks at the starter. After that, I lost all power - no dash lights, headlights or ignition. After sitting for about 5 mins I regained accessory power but I couldn’t get it to crank even with jumper cables. I checked for bad battery...

    Hi, my John Deere 3020 has a few rust spots on the hood. I want to touch them up without having to repaint the entire hood. I heard JD makes a touch up kit, but the paint needs to be classic green since that’s why it’s painted with. Any tips would be appreciated.

    The tractor was restored and is well kept, so I doubt it’s severely rusted. I was able to get the Deere part numbers. I have not picked them up yet but I will keep you all posted when I begin working on it. Thanks for your help!

    Sorry for the late response - the wire coming from the electronic ignition going to the coil broke off somehow, thank you all so much for your time and responses! The tractor runs beautifully now!

    Hey everybody, I have a 1970 3020 gasser. I want to replace the lens and bulb on my oil pressure light, as the original one is cracked and worn. Does anybody have a diagram of the system, or information on replacing this? Thanks in advance for your help.

    JD 3020 electronic ignition diagnosis

    well I would have to convert it, plus the electronic ignition removes the annoying having to replace the points/clean them every so often. I believe it’s also more efficient.
