Timing on '55 850
I checked compression last year when I bought it. I had all three cyl. within 4 psi. I can"t remember the exact reading... someting in the 120s or 130s. I replaced the coil today. Bypassed the resistor that was before the coil. Put new (metallic core)plug wires on & got it to idle pretty good... -

Yep... When I started out with the light, I just kept seeing the word 'out' on the fly wheel. But then after I got it to idle down I started to see 25... then 20... then down to 15 @ about 650 - 750 rpm. I had a hard time keeping the rpms steady that low. but I just wasn't sure what degree I... -

Guys... I set my timing tonight & she's runnin better. I just have one question on the degree reading on the flywheel. I had the smoothest idle @ about 650 - 750 rpm @ 15 degrees. So thats what I left it @. Is this ok? My manual says to set it @ 5 degrees while running @ 475 rpm. But I just... -

Replacing origional 6V coil
Not that I know of... I just bought it last year. The guy I bought it from had a 12 V battery in it just to get it to start so he could sell it. So I put in a new 6V (+ to ground)970 cold cranking amps battery. I've checked timing, & compression...I've replaced the points, plugs, rotor, cap, and... -

Replacing origional 6V coil
what do I get? & where can I pick up an aftermarket local? Don"t I get a 6V coil without internal resistor? NAPA only carries one 6V & it has an internal resistor (part#IC7). My wire feeding my coil off the ignition goes through a resistor before it feeds my coil (I think). Does this mean I can... -

Ya... I searched some old discussions. Guess I'll take it back to Checker and get something I can use. What about octane booster? Does that stuff help? -

lead fuel additive in '55 850?
Do you guys run lead additive in your old gas tractors? ... Do you find ANY fuel additives to work well on a regular basis? -

Generator output on 850
Hey Fellas... When my 850 is running, I get a 1 volt DC reading right on the lugs on my generator with no wires hooked up. Is this sufficient to keep my 6 volt battery charged? Or, is it time to rebuild? -

Timing on 850
Hey Fellas... I was working with my distributor on my 850 today. I have heard that your distrib. can actually be off 360 degrees. Since I don"t have a timing light handy...Does anyone know if she"ll run with the distributor 360 degrees off? I can get her to start... but she"s ran real sluggish...
