    Best IH tractor

In my opinion, the best tractor on the 50 hp side would probably be a 400 or 450. Most of these tractors have live hydraulics and independent PTOs. My biggest complaint is the sheet metal is a pain to take off, but these tractors are the final two models based on the design of the M. Since the...

    Farmall F20 transmission oil swap

Our F20 has always leaked gear oil out of the transmission input and PTO. After changing the packing several times, I decided to experiment with different lubricants for the transmission and final drives. Last week I swapped out the 85w-140 oil that was in the transmission for NLGI 00 grease. At...

    1066 snapping 540 shafts

Keeping the shaft at 540 will reduce the torque on the shaft. If we assume the mower needs constant power to cut grass, and power = torque * shaft speed, increasing the shaft speed will decrease the torque required. You said the speed increaser "hangs" on the end of the PTO shaft. If it really...

    400 gas steering worm shaft

I was referring to the worm shaft. I am not aware of any supplier that would sell a new shaft for a MD, SMD, SMTA, or 400. If I ordered a worm shaft for a Farmall M, I should be able to lengthen the shaft to make it fit .. right?

    400 gas steering worm shaft

After having a Farmall 400 that drives like a shopping cart for over a year, my dad and I have decided to rebuild the steering. While shopping for parts, I noticed that all of the M/400/450 steering shafts will not fit a 400 gas tractor. Does anyone know why the shafts don't fit and can the...

    Upgrade to letter series tractors

Last year I cultivated 30 acres of soybeans with an F-20 and a G-221 gear lift cultivator. Now I cultivate 50 acres with my H and HM-221 cultivator, I would definitely agree that the letter series tractors are more ergonomic, although the gear lift system on the f-20 is slightly more reliable...

    Cultivator tines

Whoops... I should've read your post more carefully. You're looking for the harrow style tines not sweeps. My bad

    Cultivator tines

I would definitely check eBay. Usually the traditional sweep style tines aren't brand specific. Just be sure to get the correct size, I believe I have 7 inch sweeps on my HM-221 cultivator. eBay listing

Farmall H Belly Pump and Tranny Bearings

The bushings in our pump were cracked, we were able pull them out by hand. We pressed the new ones in with a piece of wood and a dead blow hammer.

Farmall H Belly Pump and Tranny Bearings

My dad and I just rebuilt our H's belly pump using the standard bushings. They were available in stock at our local Motion Industries. I'd look around on the web and try to find the bushings, they aren't expensive and don't require extra work to install them. I'd check this link out first...

    New disc and plow

That disc looks like it's an international. Check to see if the IH logo is on the spool bearings.

    Duals on 450

Sorry, no picture in the first reply. Here it is.

    Duals on 450

I think you might be able to squeeze a dual hub on. However, it will be a pain to tighten the bolts on the hub once it is on the axle. I have a 400 with standard cast centers and duals, I'll attach a picture to give you an idea of what it looks like.

    Farmall F-20 Lubrication

I found this F-20 Lubrication Chart stuck in the pages an HM-221 cultivator manual. I figured some other F-20 owners would find it to be useful. The image quality will probably be bad once I post it. I'll try to attach a pdf as well.
