    Modern technology

I have all of it, love it and use it everyday. I started with computers when there was no "windows". You had to give the computer instructions from the command line prompt. there were no "hard drives" you had two floppy drives to save information to or retrieve from... IF you were...

    Starting a new business

usually cheaper than you can have them sharpened too... I checked into having some saw blades (carbide) done awhile back. Almost as expensive as buying a new blade. I bought a HF blade sharpener which was a pita to set up, but once set up I can do my own in about 10 minutes a blade and...

    welding rod

No offense Tony, but if you can't weld out of position with 6013 you need to go back to welding school or get some more practice. 6013 is universally accepted as a "all position" rod and I've welded thousands upon thousands of feet of it overhead as well as vertical with it. Any rod with a...

    welding rod

What thickness rods? Amp setting depends on both the thickness of the rod and the base metal. If you're burning through with the minimum amps to get a good arc start then you need a smaller dia rod. 6011 is a deep penetration rod usually only used for a root pass on thick steel 3/8 or...

    Ford 3600 losing oil.

3 quarts in an hour is major oil burn...probably broken rings with that much oil consumption. It's going to have to come apart to find all the issues as they're has to be more than one with that kind of oil loss. Also check your crankcase vent. is it plugged?

How much to pay someone to mow?

So do I. IF it's clean, dry pasture and fairly level. Rocks, junk, slopes or many trees and the price goes up. I have no problem getting those jobs either. Some around here charge up to $60 an acre for the same job. If it's got junk in it, etc I usually just pass on it. Not worth the...

    rod bearings

Never seen rod or crank bearings over .030. .060 is nearly a 1/16"... that's a lot of metal to remove from a bearing journal. Crankshaft re-builders routinely weld journals back up to std. and re grind them. I'd see about buying another crank or getting that one welded.

Parts fit better when correct. RANT

Yep, that's why I quit using them for the most part. they do carry or have access to some parts that are hard to find. That's all I'll use them for. Most of the guys/gals working at parts houses these days know little to nothing about vehicles or the parts they're selling. They only know...

    Golden Jubilee on Craigslist

Valve Spring Replacement Ferguson TO 30

Like you said, you've never done it.... once the valve drops down you cannot get the keeper back on the stem to hold the spring. Even with air if the valve guides are badly worn there will be enough leakage that it won't hold it up. I've done a few hundred of them.

Valve Spring Replacement Ferguson TO 30

There's a air adapter that screws into the spark plug hole, Screw it in, apply air and it keeps the valve closed. The other method mentioned is very "iffy". there's over .125" clearance between the valves and piston at TDC and the valve will drop that far when you remove the spring retainer...

    Ferguson Tractors in Florida

So many transplanted Yankees in S. Florida.... might get lucky though. My wife is 5th generation Floridian (genuine "cracker") and it's bad when the crackers are looking to move....

    Two flats and a wreck

Same here in Alabama. No license, you're at fault period. No insurance go to jail. The guy who stopped short would have gone to jail, and his vehicle impounded until he proved he had both a license and insurance. However YOU were obviously following too close. Back in my youth I had a...
