rear Hubs interchangeable from 9n to 8n

The rear axles and wheel discs are totally different between a 9N/2N and 8N, so are not interchangeable. The hub is permanently attached to the axle, unlike the 8N. Rear rims are interchangeable. Probably could swap the axle trumpets assemblies, including the brakes and pedals from one to the...

    Sherman Gaskets

Redneck trick I guess to make a gasket, but it works amazingly well. I usually measure the old gasket with a micrometer to find out the thickness and find a gasket material close. The old gasket will be slightly thinner due to compression when tightened. But on the Sherman, thickness should...

    Sherman Gaskets

The gasket between the Sherman and tractor transmission is the stock Ford gasket. I have seen gasket sets online for the combination transmission but don't think I've seen them for the overdrive. I just make my own from gasket material from the auto supply store. How I do it is place the...

Oil pump and main bearing, 1945 Ford 2N

I would also get some Plastigauge and check the clearance on all of the rod bearings and especially main bearings to make sure the clearance is within specifications. If there is too much clearance, you will lose oil pressure when the engine warms up. Too much clearance requires the crankshaft...

What is this lever on my 1958 Ford Powermaster 841D Tractor???

Sherman reversing/reverser transmission. Pushing forward gives the tractor four forward gears and one reverse gear (standard gears). Pulling backward gives the tractor four reverse gears and 1 forward gear. Commonly used for tractor with loaders for quick direction change, or for forklift or...

    PTO Operation questions

I had it backwards in my mind and told you wrong on the clutch pedal linkage. Stupid mistake on my part. Sorry about that. Been one of those days. Live PTO design essentially the same from 1955 to 1964 on the 5 speed, so conversation stays the same. Ford went from a course spline input...

    PTO Operation questions

If the front axle is adjustable, it will consist of three cast pieces, one in the center and one attached to each end of the center section with two large bolts. There will be a series of holes in each part, allowing the wheel spacing to be changed based on which holes are used. An industrial...

    PTO Operation questions

According to the stamped number on the transmission, you have a 1955 to 1957 860, not a 2000. But looking at the pictures, The transmission may have been swapped out. The fenders look like a later tractor. Does it have a solid, non-adjustable front end? If so, it likely is a 2000 industrial...

    821/4000?...pto question ....

All you have for the PTO shift unit is the casting. You needed everything else. The easiest thing to do is buy the complete shifter and casting assembly which will have all the parts. A seller on eBay has the parts you need: Item #365807037008, shifter assembly (4-speed) Item #157254360857...

    821/4000?...pto question ....

Looks like you are missing the parts that attach to the casting at the rear of the transmission. These are what engage and disengage the shaft. You'd be better off getting the whole assembly from a parts tractor and replacing the casting with the complete assembly. That would require splitting...

    821/4000?...pto question ....

Interesting pictures. Concerning the reversing/shuttle transmission, I suspect it is a Sherman. The lever for the reversing transmission does come out of the right side on a Sherman. I suspect when you replaced the input seal you actually removed the Sherman nose piece and input shaft and not...

    Tight 871 Diesel Engine

The "run wild" condition is probably due to a bad weight retainer cage in the injection pump. The original cage has a plastic ring connecting it to the shaft that was supposed to dampen vibrations. Over time the plastic gets brittle and starts to break apart. This will cause problems...

    ID Ford Tractor

As previously said, engine is likely a 1950-1952 if it has the distributor sticking out the right side of the motor. Rest of the tractor is a late 1945 to 1947 2N.

I just ordered this PTO cap for my 1947 Ford 2N but it was too small. What do I need to order?

Have you checked to make sure that the internal threads are still there? I have seen ORC's wear away the threads if they extend into the bearing housing. The second cap you show is like the design of the early N tractors, and should definitely work if you have the 1-1/8" size splines.
