Worked the 850
Ford, I just run it at a speed that is smooth and " happy". The tach doesn't work well enough to trust, but it's reading around 1700 rpm at my " sweet spot ". It handles the weeds fine in second, it's the part of the field that is all grass that I have to mow in 1st gear. -

I was mowing in first gear. It bogged down too much in second. I mow it to 6-8 in. which maybe too low? I mowed this field 3 yrs. ago when the grass was over the hood, with a buddies MF35 diesel in 2nd low and it didn't seem to work very hard at all. The two things I don't like about the 850... -

Worked the 850
Thanks to all for the tips on getting my 850 running right.. Mowed 4 ft. high grass with a 6 ft. bush hog for 2 hrs. yesterday. She ran like a top and didn't get hot. And she worked! If I had to buy a bush hog for this tractor it would be a 5 ft. But as long as I can borrow this one............... -

No spark - 631
Had this problem last week. Take the wire to the dist. off the coil. Turn on the key and briefly touch the wire to the term. You should get a spark. If you do, the problem is likely in the dist. If you don't get a spark the problem is likely wireing ahead of the coil. In my case I was reading 6... -

850 Tuneup
Thanks to all. Got it fixed. Seems I had a poor conection inside a ring term. on the junction block. It was Olds tip on getting a spark from the dist. wire. There was always 6V there but it wouldn't carry the current. Runs like a top. Thanks again. -

Points continuity is OK. Cycling points w/power on does NOT produce a spark at points or coil wire. Resistance between side terms.= 1.3 ohms Resistance from side to center terms.= 8.36 K ohms. Looks like the coil? If you guys believe it is, would you recommend a Flame thrower or standard coil... -

Since I can't get the carb any better I put a complete tuneup kit in. Ran it for awhile and tweaked the carb. Runs good! Shut it down to check out a charging problem and it won't start. No spark. No spark from the coil. There's 6v going to the coil and my meter shows the points opening and... -

What ever an MPC is I don't have one. I do have the exploded view from the carb kit and it shows a seat that is very long and sticks up well above the bowl casting. But it also says not all type B carbs have one. -

Tore the carb down again. M-S TSX-593 Type-B. Noticed the exploded view shows a power adjust needle seat although it says not all Type-B carbs use one, and the rebuild kit that I used 2 years ago did not have one in it. My carb has what appears to be a brass jet that is set below flush with... -

Battery Not Charging
I would start by cleaning all cables and wiring associated with the battery and charging system. That includes all grounding points that you can find. Take the alternator to a shop/auto parts store, and have it checked. Also check fuses which may be on a block or in line. Good luck. -

Yes. Closing the main needle will make it start missing and it will quit running if the needle is closed.
