    John Deere B PTO seal

The hydraulic oil needs to be drained only. There is another seal inside that separates the gear oil from the hydraulic oil. I drained the hydraulic oil, then waited a few days for the seals to come in the mail. No gear oil came out so i knew the seal between the two was good.

    John Deere B Carb

Sounds like something else may be going on there. Ignition timing or valve timing? Vacuum leak at manifold?

    Electrical ??

It looks like 240 volt singles phase. The center conductor is tapped white as a neutral.

    Power shaft loose?

DBurt2024: I had the same thing on a 1941B that turned out to be a very easy fix. Before you take anything apart try this first. Stand up on the platform and grip the PTO shift lever with both hands and pull upward. I was able to lift it up against spring pressure and turn it all the way one way...

OK, now it makes sense to this feeble little mind! Thanks to all for the help!

    John Deere B PTO seal

Thanks for all the replies. I will install two seals facing away from each other with grease between them as recommended. I am not questioning your wisdom just curious. Does the outer seal face away from the first seal to help keep dirt out? Since the differential isn't pressurized I suppose...

    John Deere B PTO seal

I am replacing the PTO seal on a 1946 B serial # 188XXX. The old seal is quite wide compared to the new seals. I remember reading about using two seals when replacing an old one. What I question is how would the outer seal get lubrication if the inner seal is doing it's job? Seems like it would...

John Deere A Steering gear box

I recently had my B steering apart making adjustments to reduce slop from wear. The gear driven by the worm gear turns only so far either way then come into contact with a stop. This gear fits onto a splined shaft that runs down to the wheels. That gear must be off a spline or two.

    Electric question

Switching the hot and neutral is no different than pulling the plug out of the wall. During a lightening storm that would be the thing to do. Switching the hot AND neutral would be the next best thing to do.

    Electronic ignition questions.

3 ohm 12 volt coil or just add a 1.5 ohm ballast resistor in series with your existing coil.

    12 v system charging system

If you are using a digital volt meter you may be getting false readings when the tractor is running. If you have access to an analog voltmeter give it a try to verify interference isn't confusing the digital meter. I have seen it happen many times.

    Zenith carburetor

Years ago I fought and fought a carburator on a single cylinder Wisconsin motor doing the same thing. As soon as I turned the gas on it would run out where the air filter connected. I finally found a plugged vent that vents the air out of the bowl as the bowl fills. If the bowl cannot vent the...
