    Basic welding question

I'm not an experience welder. I have tryed a few other rods but found that 6011 allowed me to learn and make strong welds. 6013 I use to fill holes and for steel that burns through easily.1/16" rods are quite small and seem to be harder to use, but then I don't use them that much. Watch your...

    small size drills

I'd like to be able to drill 1/32" holes in copper tubing. Dremel sell these drills in sets of 4 ($5.00 approx.for a set). Advertized as made of high grade steel for soft materials.Would these work in copper? What other option might there be? Thanks! AK

    Wood Stove - Smokey Glass

I always burn dry wood in my airtight stove. I always thought if wood was wet you had to burn more wood to dry the moisture out. I also found that there was less creosote when using dry wood. Also if you burn less wood there is less smoke.

    Table saw blade speed

Hi! There are several variables to be considered. A few examples. The larger the diameter of the saw blade the slower the saw blade can turn. My 71/4” electric hand saw runs at 5500 rpm. My Makita 10”cutoff saw at 4000 rpm. A strong motor that doesn’t slow down when you push material into saw...

    Safety with boots

I think I'd rather live in central Mo. No hurricanes maybe. Weather is quite mild! The problem is that if I stand in snow cutting wood my feet get cold. There is dampness in my socks& felt liners. It has to be colder than your talking about for me to have much of a problem. Thanks Gene.

    Safety with boots

I live up north (-20 F). When I plan to work outside for awhile I wear boots with felt liners a pair of heavy wool socks and cotton socks next to my feet which I wash and make sure are absolutely dry. I was reading about liner socks (Polypropylene) that wicks the moisture away from the skin. The...

    Chainsaw bar

An easy thing to check is to see if the bar is not bent. A new chain and bar with a bent bar will cut great but not straight !

    What wood to use?

Suggestion: laminate a light and dark wood. 3/4" boards in layers ! More time consuming to do but interesting results.

    Hoist info. ?

Hi LilFarmer, It takes a LOT of food for thought, especially for a first time project. I have a small collection of parts on hand; so far I thought of going with a chain drive but haven’t excluded using belt or gearbox. The load would be constant. That point about starting torque? I am...

    Hoist info. ?

I'm thinking of making a small hoist that would lift a little over 1000 lbs 9'6". Could anybody confirm if a 1/3 hp motor would do this in one minute? I think I have two options for the electic motor - 1725rpm & 3450 rpm.Below are my thoughts. Thanks for your help. Al Math for Hoist Question 1...
