IH 2588 or 6088, and which 8 row head

Ok so the 6088 uses the new NH/IH "flagship" style heads? I'm curious as to how much capacity is gained with that machine, but it sounds like the 2588 may be the more economical choice all else being equal. Our table is a 2020 which we bought very lightly used a couple years ago. I don't believe...

IH 2588 or 6088, and which 8 row head

We are looking to trade combines. Currently running a 2366. It has about 5700 engine hrs and 3500 seperator hours and it's well past due for trading. We're thinking it would be wise to step up to a class 6 machine. Looking to spend about 100k give or take a little and get a machine with...

    Turbocharging a 4010

Larger oil pan does sound like a wise future investment. It doesn't overheat any at close to 100, and I think 120 is plenty. But I'll certainly be keeping a close eye on it. I might run 5w40 synthetic to make up for the small oil pan at first. That's what we use in the 4630 that makes close to...

    Turbocharging a 4010

It has already had the turbo removed for a couple yeara. You are right. It was a dog at first without it. It was the way the pump was. The combine pump seemed to have a different fuel curve and so it only made power up top. But we already remedied that by switching a tractor pump onto it.

    Turbocharging a 4010

That's a nice setup you made. Mine is similar but it uses all factory parts except for the exhaust elbow, which is shorter than stock but doesn't sit up higher like that. It isn't even really an elbow, just a piece that accepts the little tube that couples to the turbo, and then there is a...

    Turbocharging a 4010

Fuel is already turned up. She smokes when she bogs down. I don't plan to add any more fuel really. I think it's as much as you can get with a 4010 pump anyways without changing the head out. I just want the turbo to give it more air and burn the fuel it has. Which should actually lower...

    Turbocharging a 4010

That's some tough luck, but I think you got a Friday tractor and the guys at the factory were rushing to go to the bar that evening. I've never heard of such bad luck with a 4010/4020. This tractor has put hundreds of hours on a disc windrower that most would use a 125-150hp tractor for, also at...

    Turbocharging a 4010

I'm planning on turbocharging our 4010. We recently replaced the engine in one of our 4020s with a combine engine. It had a 4320 (I think, hood wasn't cut to clear turbo. 2 piece manifold and airresearch Garret t04b) turbo kit on it. This particular 4020 is only used as a loader tractor nowdays...

    Air compressor oil

Straight 30 Non Detergent. However, make sure it's an SB rated oil not SA. SA oil is nothing but oil, SB oil has anti wear additives but no detergents. I use Valvoline. Some people claim synthetics and dedicated compressor oils are the bee's knees, but imho it's just a waste of money. Never seen...

    Tractors ploughing in competition. Pictures

I ought to hold a plowing competition at dads place. Have a field that's had alfalfa in it for about 10 years now. You don't even leave tracks unless it's muddy! It's nice black Iowa soil, but it's packed! We ran the disc over it to put in some sorghum this summer and it hardly dug in...

High Temp Paint on Exhaust Question

What I have found from trial and error, is that the easiest thing to use is Stove Black, aka Stove Polish, for wood burning stoves. It's a liquid that can be applied with a rag or brush, which is nice for getting manifolds and hard to reach areas without removing everything. It lasts a long time...

    530 occasional misfire/rough running.

I change it yearly when I change the engine oil. Its never too dirty. But, I didn't consider that maybe I got water in there on accident when washing it, and I've never actually taken the whole cleaner apart and deep cleaned it. I'll check that next.

    530 occasional misfire/rough running.

My 530 began having an occasional misfire the other day. Mostly happens under load, such as driving uphill. I believe it to be a spark issue as it smokes when it happens, and has no power loss when it isn't happening. Power comes back strong immediately once it stops. Intervals seem random, as...

    Oil pressure

If it were mine, and didn't leak, I would try some 15w50 synthetic and see how that fared. 15w50 synthetic is both thicker when hot, and less prone to shearing down than a conventional 15w40. Conventional 15w40 traditionally began as 15 weight oil and had additives to reach 40 when hot. Modern...

jd 4450 ac leak can not find

On cars we would put a florescent dye in the compressor oil and then use a blacklight to see where it leaked. Might be worth a shot in case it's somewhere you aren't able to see very well. I need to do this to our 4630 soon, AC was converted a few years back. Didn't wanna blow cold this year so...
