    Case IH 585 brakes

I was just wondering while I’m this far into it if I should check them. I don’t know the history on this tractor and the gasket looked kind of newer is the reason I ask. This is the 3rd time ive had it apart and want it to be the last

Ok my issue is not that. I have strong brakes but once it sits, the resivor tank will drain out after a day causing a no pedal.

I did read somewhere that the later serial numbers was not supposed to have a gasket on the top cover because it won’t allow the o rings to seal in the bleeder passage. It looks like mine does have a gasket. It said 18000 and up were not supposed to have the gasket. Do you know which number in...

Well guys, I think you were right. I ordered the heavy o rings. In the mean time, I wanted to do a little test. So the inner “thicker” o ring that seals the bearing carrier I guess you would call it, had shims. I took the shims out and installed the cover which would make it “smash the o ring...

Thanks mark. Do you think I could get the premium o ring set from my local dealer or will I have to order those off a website. If so do you know where I could get my hands on them?

Well I pulled one axle housing back off. I removed the piston and inspected the o rings and didn’t find anything wrong with them that stuck out to me. I cleaned everything up and installed the piston. I filled my gravity hose and it leaked down my no signs of any leaks about of piston. I did...

Here is what I rigged up to plumb into the feed of the axle housing. 1/2 in air hose and fittings. It did leak down about 1/3 of the length of the hose overnight.

There is no external leaks anywhere. I will try the gravity feeding the axle housings and let you know what I come up with. Thanks again.

Thank you. So what if I were to do the same to the inlet of the master cylinders. Are those supposed to leak through with gravity? The reason I ask is because the fluid has to be going through the master cylinders as well when it drains the resivor.

    Case IH 585 brakes

Thank you. So if I understand this correctly, if I were to take the line off that goes into the axle housing and put a fitting/hose to a bottle of fluid to basically gravity feed the axle housing and let sit. If the fluid leaks down, I have a leak inside the housing somewhere?

I guess I meant I didn’t know what’s supposed to hold fluid in the resivor. Like if I were to take the line off the master cylinder feeding the brakes if fluid would drain out of the outlet port. Or are the o rings supposed to hold the fluid in the resivor. If that makes sense. From what I can...

    Case IH 585 brakes

I pinched off the lines feeding the master cylinders from the reservoir one side at a time. The tank is bleeding down on either side at the same rate. I will add that I did order the master cylinders from eBay, so I don’t know if I fully trust them. I’m starting to wonder if they are bypassing...

I can stand on the pedal and the pedal doesn’t sink down. It’s just after it sits for a couple days that it looses prime. I just don’t want to have to tear it all back apart if I don’t have to. Thanks
