    1969 JD 4020 Alternator

First off, this tractor is something of a hobby for me, not necessary to maintain our farm. I just finished converting to a single 12v battery vs 2 6v's, It was starting really hard and after going to a single battery, turns over as good as my car, and starts much easier. I measured the...

    1969 JD 4020 Gages

I am familiar with multimeters and have one. I don't have a test light or continuity tester. Thanks for the thoughtful reply, I will start with the coolant temp and see what I can figure out. -kurt

    1969 JD 4020 Gages

I have a 1969 4020, runs great, more of a hobby than a work tractor so to speak. None of the gages work. They bounce but never leave the low peg. Oil Pressure, Temperature and fuel gage. Not sure what those 3 lights are on the right side. I guess I need to do some more research, but...

    1969 JD 4020 Sloppy Steering

I have attached a few pics and actually posted a 14 second video also that you can watch. Towards the end of the video it is very clear what problem I am trying to solve. If I turn the steering wheel right and left, you can see the arm in the picture move quite a bit before the right wheel...

1969 JD 4020 Fuel Problems, Shutting Off

I believe you were correct cornerpost, I crimped the connector a bit and shoved it on snugly. Started the tractor and initial indications are good. Ordering new fuel filters to get those baselined. Also will be checking every other thing mentioned here. Thanks for tolerating a newbie. I...

1969 JD 4020 Fuel Problems, Shutting Off

***Sorry I meant to mention cornerpost in last post. *** I think this might be it cornerpost. When I was wiping up injection pump I would definitely bumped that wire. I checked it yesterday and it was barely connected. I crimped the end a bit and now it is stuck very snugly. I need to...

1969 JD 4020 Fuel Problems, Shutting Off

I have a 4020 tractor that I bought a month or so ago, I have never run it very long, maybe 5 mins max, not sure. I have been working to fix some leaks on the banjo fittings on the injection pump, took a while to get parts and had to do it twice. Yesterday, I finished the last banjo...

Need Help: 69 JD 4020 Injection Pump Leak

Thanks, not sure why I still have the leak then, I guess I will replace them again. The one that I think is leaking is the hardest one to get to. I can get a socket on the rest, but that one I can only get about half depth on a box end wrench.

Need Help: 69 JD 4020 Injection Pump Leak

Thanks Dieseltech. I got my washers from greenpartstore, not sure what kind I have. Maybe the picture shows what kind of washers I received. One thing I noticed is the washers have a flat side and a round side. Meaning there is a top and bottom to the washer. The service manual does...

Need Help: 69 JD 4020 Injection Pump Leak

Recently purchased this 1969 JD 4020, noticed what appeared to be a leak on one of the banjo fittings on the injection pump. The one in the pic with the wrench on it is the one I thought was leaking. When the tractor is running, there is a noticable spray that is coming somewhere from...

1969 JD 4020 Injector Pump Leaks

Well I put a wrench on all 6 yesterday and they are so tight I could not budge them. Ironically, the one that leaks the worse is the hardest one to get to. I need to find the seals now and guess I will have to disassemble them all. Thanks
