That is a great piece of information. Thank you! I popped the ball joint off, adjusted the amount of travel and put it back together. I bought a "new to me" 1996 John Deere 5300 PID LV5300E632121* I did not do a good pre-purchase inspection (already gotten the lecture). Got it home and the clutch is slipping. I can and will look at that in the morning (when it is light out) but is that something that changes? Meaning does timing "slip"? Do we always have to re-time an engine? I vaguely remember doing timing once or twice as a kid, but not a lot..... -

Tested compression wet with 1TBSP of oil in each cylinder Wet Results: 1- 110, 2- 170, 3-150, 4-170 Dry Results: 1- 80, 2-135, 3-120, 4-140 Pretty consistently 30 more when wet. -

Well, when it runs, I have 40+ oil pressure at idle and 70+ at operating speed, so that is great as well.... but it does not run. I have good spark on all four plugs - will jump 1/2 inch from the plug to the tractor, or will jump a plug opened to 1/4 inch. I have good fuel flow to the carb... -

I tried starter fluid in the carb with no luck. I have taken the carb off and warmed it up in the house in case water was frozen in it. No luck. Took the carb off a second time and found that it was flooded into the air intake tube like the float was stuck. Verified the float was 1/4 inch... -

That is a good thought, I looked in the bottom of the air cleaner, just oil, but it deserves a second look, it often gets water in it....
