Gas in a diesel.... Not OT

Yes my older VW diesel Rabbit manual says that but my 1991 Jetta diesel manual does not mention it anymore.

Gas in a diesel.... Not OT

I've got two GM owner's manuals sitting right here. 1978 1/2 ton Chevy truck with the Olds 350 diesel and a 1981 Chevy Chevette 1.8 diesel. Both say that if low on fuel and no diesel stations are available, up to a 10% mix of gas to diesel can be used without damage in an emergency. My 1982...

    forced induction v.s. injection timing

Yes, and I already posted it at approx 186,262 MPH. I was closer to the exact number then you. So what? Did I not post it in the correct "tone" or something?

    forced induction v.s. injection timing

Yeah . . . I made one mis-statement while typing in a hurry answering a guestion the guy asked me. For that one mistake I am guilty. He asked . . "on my old 70 Diesel, the #1 inj is before TDC, and to make it squirt earlier, you have to decrease the cracking pressure." I responded . . "I have...

    Ignition Resistors

I don't think anyone claimed to know more about your tractor then you. I don't even know what it is specifically. Some of us do know of Georg Ohm's Law - one of the most fundamental laws used in electronics for almost 200 years. Also about the Kettering coil and points battery ignition...

    Electronic ignition

Pertronix gives diagnostic info on their Website in PDF files. Not your problem but . . one big difference betweene electronic and points systems. The electronic goes dead at 8.5 volts if the system gets low. with points - in a 12 volt system - voltage can get down to 5-6 volts and still work.

    4020 transmission pump

I never said anything to the contrary. I said the main pump in front needs NO feed pressure to operate correctly. just flow. That was true when I stated it, and is still true now. There can be many other reasons why a trans pump is needed in various Deere tractors and option packages - but it...

    4020 transmission pump

Yes, but the front pump requires NO pressure to work properly. It just has to be kept wet. Many other tractors with similar if not the same pump gears need higher PSI to run other functions besides the front main hydraulic pump. Same goes with a 4020 with Powershift. When you plug a gauge into...

    forced induction v.s. injection timing

One more set of comments . . I have no idea how lowering injector opening pressure on what I assume is a Deere 70 diesel - is going to retard timing. Makes no sense to me. Speed of the diesel fuel increases with pressure. If it's timed with injectors set to open at 2400 PSI, lowering to...

Parts Needed 1934 Standard Monarch Garden Tractor

I have two Monarchs that look exactly like the one in the photo with the spiked wheels and wood handles. I'll send you a private email. I've had many people contact me for parts - and then decide they didn't want them after finding out what it costs to ship. I have no control over that. I'm in...

    forced induction v.s. injection timing

With a spark ignition engine - ignition inside the combustion chamber happens at virtually the same time as at the distributor or coil. That because spark travels at the speed of light. 186,262 MPH or something like that. In a diesel - there is a pretty big time lag between the source...

    Husqvarna 4120K demolition saw ??

I've been looking for a good buy on a concrete cutting demolition saw for a few years. Finally found what seems to be a great buy. Husqvarna 4120K. Came with two 16" diamond blades and a water-cooling kit. Paid $300 and it looks like new. It's a pretty big unit and I assume it MUST be based on...

    DETROIT DIESEL 3 CYLINDER

Detroit Diesel two-stroke-cycle engines are one of the few that have never approved of any type of multi-viscosity oil. Only single grade. 30W Shell or Delo is the most common I hear of Detroit people using. 40W in hot areas.

    4020 transmission pump

If it's a SynchroRange and not Powershift - all that gear pump has to do is keep the front pump wet. No pressure needed for the front pump to work properly. If it's so worn it no longer pumps any oil - you'll see it easy from the obvious wear.

    forced induction v.s. injection timing

A turbo IS a supercharger. Just one version that is exhaust driven instead of belt or gear driven. Diesels tend to run more advanced at higher altitudes when there is less oxygen getting into the engine. So I assume that adding boost and more oxygen means perhaps a need for retarded timing...
