    JD 4040

Got one with 8300 hours. Been in the family since new. Its been a good tractor. New head gasket, hydraulic pump rebuilt, and hydraulic valves on the back rebuilt. No other major repairs just normal maintanence. I think its starting to get a little tired and will get a rebuild eventually but...

    International 56 planter HELP!!!!

A manual is your best friend with a corn planter. I made copies of the pages i look at regularly and keep them on the tractor when planting. Whether or not you can get to 30in rows will depend on the frame like said above. If it can be narrowed its a matter of loosening bolts, sliding things in...

    opinions on 4240,4040,4050 - 2840 gotta go.

Got a 4040 and 4240 that were purchased new by my grandfather. 4040 has 8300 hours. Probably getting a little tired but still does what it needs to so we will wait on an overhaul. 4240 has 7100 hours and still going strong. We have always been happy with them

    silo tipped over

There have been a few around here go over over the years. Usually lack of maintenance or not fixing damage. Old timers say filling too fast with a distributor that doesnt spread the silage out evenly and puts too much silage on one side of the silo could tip one over.

Anyone see these at shows? - 3 point mount chopper

Neighbor just sold a new holland 707 3ph chopper. Guys around here used to have them in case of a real wet year. My neighbor bought it new years ago, used it once and it sat since then. Seems with the small throat it has it would be slow going but might work well for a small operation.

    544 flywheel

My dealer can get me one. Just under $1000. Took mine to a couple different diesel/tractor mechanics to look at and they told me to have it resurfaced and put it back in the tractor so thats what i did. Said the cracks being as small as they were wouldnt bother anything.

    544 flywheel

Clutch went so we split the tractor. Get to the flywheel and there are cracks in it that go all the way through. Maybe 6 or 8 little cracks. Ive been looking all over online trying to find one and it seems they are readily available for a lot of tractors except the 544 gear drive diesel. Ive...

    544 flywheel

I have a 544 diesel with gear drive. Looking for a flywheel for it. Wanted to see if there is anywhere other than a dealer to get it as they want about $1100. I have looked online without any luck so far. Thanks for any help.

    Too late for oats?

I'd think that 1 bushel would be a waste. Not quite enough to drown out weeds. I have been planting 3 bushels to the acre with good luck so far

    Too late for oats?

I'm in western ny and plan to do the same thing when we get some decent weather to do so. If your just taking them for hay I wouldn't worry too much about it. I know guys that have planted them into June for hay with no problems. Hardest part is getting them to dry out once you cut them.

    Weather

I'm in western ny. Got 10 acres of corn in last Wednesday and Thursday. Got some other ground plowed up but still have more to do. Big guys around me were going like mad last week putting corn in but i haven't talked to any so I don't know how they are going. Been at a standstill since Saturday...

    OT repalcement Heifers

Breed around 15 months like others have said. I also look at the size of the animal for breeding. A little bigger animal may get bred sooner, smaller one later. I do AI so i always go for a small calving bull on heifers which helps calving ease.

    Agway

Still have an Agway store near me. Owned by a local family. Pretty sure its just an independent store just using the Agway name. Been there as long as I can remember.
