    1948 John Deere A generator/regulator

Thanks for checking back! No, I'm still fighting but I am hopeful. It finally quit showing any amps at all after had searched out all of the wiring looking for shorts. One of the checks I made showed that the voltage regulator was toast, so I now have one on order, it looked really old and...

    1948 John Deere A generator/regulator

Not sure if this answers your question but there are three terminals on the regulator. One has wire to the ammeter, another to the field terminal on the gen,. and another to the armature terminal on the gen.

It does! It is mounted on a Delco Remy 12v generator, but I don't know what type it is.

    1948 John Deere A generator/regulator

Hi Guys, still working the restoration of my A. With the generator polarized and the tractor running mid throttle, the new ammeter shows ten amps but my meter connected to the battery is showing 12.8 volts. {12.4 when not running). That seems a little high on the amp reading and a little low on...

    John Deere A Radiator

My 1948 John Deere A has a radiator leak. Is stop leak a good idea or do I need to pull it and do it right? Is there a reputable salvage yard in the Midwest that would have a good one for sale? Any ideas would be appreciated.

    1948 John Deere A Starter

It spins every time but the engagement percentage is not good. The ring gear is not great, it is as you say boogered up a bit but not as bad as the Bendix gear.

    1948 John Deere A Starter

Hi Guys, Thanks for all your help so far! I got the A running, and it sounds pretty good. But when I start it, it takes several (4 or 5) times for the starter to engage. Electrical connections are good, Iv'e looked at the bendix and it looks kinda bad, so I've got a new one on the way. Is there...

    John Deere A ignition

It'a a distributor. I'm concerned that if I put a 12v battery in, I may cook the coil or something else that was set up for a lower voltage.

    John Deere A ignition

Hi guys. I'm to get a 1948 John Deere A, that has been setting for fifteen +years, running to sell. It had a dead 8 volt battery in it and the generator says 12 volt. An 8 volt battery is expensive and harder to find than a 6 or 12. What would you do, put it back to the 6v, put in a new 8v, or...
