    Think before you torch

I was needing to pull the gearbox on my rhino brush hog. The box was bolted through the deck with six 3/4" bolts. Normally, I would have fought with wrenching them off for a couple of hours, bracing a wrench below. Then I would climb out and try to turn the nut from above. Then the bottom wrench...

    front wheel weights?

Are you sure the last letter is an A? If its actually R 226R then its for an 80,830,840 70D,720D,730D & R. I looked the #'s up in the master parts index, but never found R 226A. Hope this helps. Kevin

    Lead washers?

I was assuming that's what they were for, in case water got past the gasket some how. Gaurling makes sence when Tim posted it. I understand small diameter washers were unavalible at the time. Thanks for correcting me on this. Kevin

    Lead washers?

Most of the engine rebuild gasket kits come with them, if not you can get the at the JD dealer. They come in a box of 50, I just picked some up a couple weeks ago, think is about a dollar fifty a piece. They seal things up around the studs, my thoughts would be they belong there or they...

    transporting a skeleton wheel B

Belting seems to be the way to go, I work on a rock crushing plant, that would be the best place to find the belt cheap. We always have a roll or 2 of used belting around here looking for a new home. Works good in front of your work bench also, easier on the knees & feet at the end of the day. I...

Would anyone have the adjuster bolt for the valves? Screws into rocker & pushes against the push rods. Thanks, Kevin

    JD B weight

Well I'm not much help on the weights, but the 10,000 should be close. I bought 2 misfits in Duluth Mn. A couple years back & hauled them home with my 1500HD 6.0 liter & a tri axle fith wheel. I put the '40 on the front & '49 on the back, both have cast rear centers, not sure if they are loaded...

    52 B, starting restoration

Personaly I like JDfans approch. I bought a stuck '49 B, pulled the block & pressed out the pistons. I was lucky & only had to hone it & replaced the rings. Cant say that it cost a lot of money. I used the press at work, wasn't a bad push. Did the same to an R I bought sight unseen, that...

'38 with anti-freeze getting in the cylinders

I was going to use water only because I have the water valve for it. I found it in the bottom of the tool box a couple years ago. I want to put it on, may never use it, but have it hooked up just the same. I plan to run the D for the rest of the summer the way it is, hopefully have the time in...

'38 with anti-freeze getting in the cylinders

When I was getting the D re*dy for our July 1st parade, I noticed the white smoke & sweet smell of anti-freeze. I have since drained it & replaced with water, thinking I should try to flush out the antifreeze best I can. I will be only use water in it after repaired anyways. I was thinkigs...

    What size tire is needed?

I looked at dads '41B tonight, looks like the inside would be closer to 7 1/2" or 8" on his. He has 9 bolts steel rims on it with 11.2 x 38s. I also looked at my '40B with cast centres they look like 7". It has 10 x 38 on it. Tires are on so we couldn't get a true measurement. Hope this helps, Kevin
