    Over heating

    A word of caution if you decide to change the thermostat: Since it's mounted vertically, it will tend to slip down out of its groove. This can result in a broken housing when you tighten the housing bolts. Use a piece of fishing line to hold it up while you tighten the bolts.

    I suspect you'll be fine if you just keep your rpms above 2000 and stay in second gear. Boilover is not uncommon when you shut down a hot engine without letting it idle for a minute or two.

    I think the main reason for adding air when the valve stem is high is to prevent ballast from getting into the valve stem. I don't think you'll have any problem adding air, but you may find the stem leaks or is stuck closed after you do. No problem, it's easy enough to replace the valve stem...

    I used almost four quarts on my Silverado 2500HD. Note that I changed out the master cylinder and it took nearly a quart just to fill and bench bleed the master.

    Drained oil in front axle of my John Deere 6300, now I can't get the filler plug off to refill.

    That's easily avoided by purchasing the largest tanks you can buy outright. I've never leased tanks, and I use so little gas I only need to fill them every five to ten years.

    Once you get an oxyacetylene rig you'll wonder how you ever got by without it. It's an absolutely essential tool for working on old iron.
