    Actual Indak USA made switches to replace 8N3679C that fit the hole are still available if you look (Allis Chalmers p/n 225310). They have spade terminals so you have to add the wires yourself.

    I need to replace a seal on my 8N this Winter. I have always read that the shaft was rare to need to replace but if the hub was loose that you should replace it?

    Got 12V kit, lost docs, anyone recognize this?

    A U1 lawn/garden battery is 300 to 350 CCA. The bigger batteries are 550 or so CCA. The little battery may be enough, but if it doesn't start fast you may be recharging it.

    I have a Group 26 battery on my 8N with a Club Car 101090801 hold down bar. RH side has a ¼-20 bolt and LH side has a J-bolt and wing nut. The original 6V hold down does not fit any 12V battery.

    Wherever this photo came from perhaps it is an intermediate stage. But if this is on a running tractor I would be very leery of the bare bolt in the "alt" wire connection. If that bounces against metal there will be a big spark and bad things might happen. Needs wrapped or eliminated. Also...

    On a 10/12SI Delco alternator wired as a 3-wire: #1 should be wired through an incandescent bulb (not LED) as noted above. #2 should really go to where the power is branching from. Many people just go to the main alternator output stud (and to be fair Oldsmobile did this too in some cases)...

    6V Starter Conversion To The Faster 12V Starter

    Can't speak for the N tractor starter, but for a Flathead V8 you can definitely use the Stator (case) from a '63 390 T-bird which was 12V with the Armature (shaft) of an 8BA V8 starter which was 6V to create a 12V Flathead starter. It worked great until I got a mini-starter.

    Yep. I disconnect the battery if it will sit for more than a day. OP-alternator as suggested is a very likely source. Unless maybe the key/switch is not disconnecting the coil? The electrical system is pretty simple on these. Need to do some systematic diagnostics.

    I definitely want to add a positive experience for the 12V side. We converted my dad's NAA in 1986. Poorly done Delco 63A 10Si alternator (car size pulley and belt, Chrysler resistor on "1" side, cobbled brackets...) conversion with original wiring. It was refurbished with new wiring in 2019...
