Your home town than and now!!!! chime in all

I grew up on a small dairy farm just 5 miles south of Cincinnati in northern Kentucky. My grandpa bought the farm in 1920.He moved from another farm 2 miles closer to town.My Dad always spoke of neighbors who farmed when he was a boy,but when I was growing up,in the '60s,only 2 older farmers were...

    Farmall 450-what have I done ??

I have been to tractor shows and have seen tractors parked with the T/A handle pulled back.It makes me cringe,I just feel the owner does not know what the handle is for,and that the tractor could roll away.Mark

    Farmall 450-what have I done ??

You know, your theory about something in the intake may have merit.I don't think coolant would have got on top of a piston that fast, and only once, but I would never want to try and force a locked up engine to turn over without relieving compression-in your case-removing spark plugs.Any unknown...

    Farmall 450-what have I done ??

When the motor locked up,first thing you should do is pull the spark plugs. If you try to pull start it you could bend your rods if something was on top of the pistons,so that is why you would want to pull plugs first. You have to have the T/A handle forward(direct drive) to pull start.I would...

    R 134A Freon

My fast guess would have been 1 1/2 cans.Tx Jim has the best touchy feely answer, and someone else gave an amount, which your vehicle should have under the hood somewhere, usually on the compressor. The system should have been evacuated first, but none the less,as well as watching your...

why won't engine oil turn black??

I would say very frequent oil changes.I do my cih485 every 100 hrs(once a year average),and it stays clean looking for a long time, but does get black by the time I change it.If I changed oil on something and it was almost immediately black,I would probably change it again very soon.Mark

Take the tach cable loose at the head;start the engine and observe the cable : see if it rotates. If it it does, stop engine, try to rotate the it to see if it slips at the drive end. You could try to hold it while engine idles, if you're careful and see if it slips.Look at the cable where it goes...

300 U steering box change out need advice

I believe you can use a jaw type puller on the steering wheel. You can whack the rounded side of the pitman arms with a big hammer and they should pop off;I believe there are chisel marks on their face for alignment. On mine I don't remember having to helicoil the mounting holes, but that would...

Grass hay cutting/Ford 501 Sickle mower

Is this field clean, that is,is there dead old hay from previous cutting or uneven dirt ruts that is in the hay? Old hay will DRAG and pile up on the cutter bar;dirt mounds will prevent cutting and cause a drag. One thing that I think helps is to tilt the cutter bar just slightly up;I think all...
