Greetings, when using the wood splitter the top cover for the SCV split. It happened when the splitter fully retracted. The tractor was slightly above low idle. I Just put a closed center spool in the energy hydraulics valve and used it for 15 minutes or so when it Busted. Had been using it...

    Headlight installation on 4020

Hi, Di electric grease is an insulator, you might want to run a ground wire. Dielectric grease, or tune-up grease, is a silicone-based grease that repels moisture and protects electrical connections against corrosion. ... The grease does not conduct electricity, so it shouldn't be applied...

    Neat trick with shaving cream

I bring this up because I recently wanted to read the serial # stamped on side of my new-to-me 9N. Couldn't make it out against the dark metal of the engine block. Here is something that often works: Smear a glob of foamy shaving cream over the stamping. Wipe it off. The cream will embed in...

Replacing batteries in 4010 is 2- 6 or 2-12v better?

I am putting 2 12V strongboxes back in, I was going to check the charging voltage. I am curious to see if the voltage regulator is actually defective or was just abnormally high because of a high load from a bad battery. I don't think it should be over 14.5v regardless of the load. Just want to...

Replacing batteries in 4010 is 2- 6 or 2-12v better?

Hi, I converted the tractor to 12V two years ago with 2-0 cables from each battery to the solenoid. Its starts excellent. Thanks to Tx Jim. The voltage regulator in the 10si alternator is defective and is putting out up to 17.5v which caused the batteries to "boil" the water out. Refilled them...

    8N starter questions

Starter issue with 1951 8N (12v conversion): Last summer the starter would spin but the original Bendix wouldn't engage. I put in a new-style Bendix and the tractor started up fine, but the next day it was the old story -- spin and whir but not engage. I finished the summer by crank-starting it...

    8n in a fire

I am looking for a 8n to put a flathead v8 in. I found one that was in a fire. The tractor did not catch fire but it got hot enough to melt the back tires. My question is do you think the hydraulics will be ok? Any other advise would be good. I know this is hard but what is it worth? Thanks Al
