    1939 9N opportunity

Out of the blue this afternoon the seller sent me a picture of the rear of the tractor I had requested. Low and behold, it's a 2N. The fender mount bosses were the open type. So either someone mashed two tractors together or he's incorrect about the serial number. I'm not interested.

    9N Oil Filler neck

Thanks Tim. I have the correct cap. I need the tube.

First Tractor Choice - Which One?

I don't think the economy is effecting used tractor sales as much as it's where we are as a society. A) It has to be new. B) It has to have a warranty so when there's a problem, it's not my problem and C) I'd have to be willing to learn and get my hands dirty to support an old tractor. That...

    1939 9N opportunity

The seller blew me off when I asked several questions about the 1939 claim. I am passing and moving on.

    9N Oil Filler neck

That gave me a chuckle. No, I don't think I'll do that. :D

    9N Oil Filler neck

That would be great if I could rock it out of there because it's two items (oil tube and the breather) that are incorrect. It drives me crazy looking at them. Does anyone have an original oil filler tube for the 1940 9N they'd like to sell?

    9N Oil Filler neck

I have a 1940 9N that is pretty original and getting better. One of the things that is incorrect is the oil filler neck and breather. I have a correct reproduction to go on the tractor but it doesn't fit. Apparently someone shortened the neck for some reason. Is that tube something I can remove...

    1939 9N opportunity

Those deficiencies aren't news to me. On my '40 the first thing I did was remove the bumper. How can I ID an original from aftermarket? If it's a genuine part from the era I'll keep it. If it's clearly aftermarket it's probably going into the neighbor's steel pile. The filler neck was shortened...

    Oil filter sytem missing?

First thought is get some filtration on the tractor!. Lol. After that, spin on or cannister both work. I have spin on on my 640 and cannister on my 9N. If my 640 wasn't converted when I bought it, I'd have probably stayed with a cannister as it is more original.

    39 9N

In case you're having trouble decoding the comments, lol, DO NOT plug the holes and do not remove the floppy cotter pins.

    1953 NAA Overheating?

Are you saying you have used this heavy 5ft brush hog the same way in the past and didn't overheat? A 5ft brush hog taking a full cut in heavy brush set low, with used blades could easily overload the cooling system on an NAA this time of year.

    1939 9N opportunity

I agree. Nothing looks like a '39 except the radius arms. I sent the seller several specific questions. If I get nothing but silliness back I'm forgetting about it.

    1939 9N opportunity

Yeah, I recognize all the things that are wrong about it and I appreciate the list. I'm not new to the early Fords. I have a restored 1940 9N pictured above. Below it is another picture of the project tractor we're discussing. It is odd that other than the radius arms and the claimed serial...

    1939 9N opportunity

The steering wheel is wrong too, so is the starter switch, etc. But, if it's really the correct serial number, I'll have a legit '39 and can restore from there. $700 for a genuine '39 has my attention. More thoughts?
