    1660 Axial Flow Tough Threshing

This x1000. Putting an auger style front end on the rotor will make all the difference in the world in soybeans, especially tough green stem beans. There are several different styles out there. Like is perhaps the easiest to install as you can do it with rotor still in the combine. Ive had...

    Cotton picker spikes

Wish you?d asked this last year. I had thousands but hauled them off for scrap. BTW they?re called spindles.

    1680 problem

Most likely problem is low voltage when you turn your lights on. Those combines don?t put out a lot of electrical power as it is and the lights will draw a lot of it. Most likely your alternator is getting week or you have some bad connections or a bad ground

Rotor impeller wear bars---chrome vs. hardened?

The best thing you can do is get rid of the impellers and put an AFX style auger front end on it. More expensive but it's one of the best upgrades you can do to those combines. Kile has the cheapest kit. I've used the Lowen kit and the Stewart Steel kit. My preference is the Lowen kit

Re: Your list of combines you?ve had

Started out with a Case IH 1660 in 2002 Upgraded to a 2366 in 2010 Went to a 7120 this year

    1660 rotor belt broke

700-750 is a good starting point. Might run it up to 800 if it's not splitting beans and you want a little more capacity. You might want to run the last two veins in the fast position too to get the material out of the cage quicker

    1660 rotor belt broke

There's a lot of things that cause a rotor belt on those machines to let go prematurely and I've experienced about all of them. 1. Heat is a belts enemy. If the belt is not properly adjusted or torque sensing unit is not properly working the belt can slip under load. A worn out spring...

    1660 oil pressure

I did have the oil pump go out on mine. I can't remember if it started fluctuating before it went bad.

CIH 1660-Do you remember the first time you drove a combine?

1st combine experience was in 2003. Dad cut way back on cotton acreage and had me by a combine. I was 23 at the time. Bought a 1989 1660 with a 944 corn head and 22.5' 1020 head. Had 900 acres of corn and beans to get out. Never been on a combine before. First field of corn to get ready had been...

    CIH 1660 hydraulics

Happened on my 1660 too. Wound up being the plastic poppet in the valve stack. Be prepared for sticker shock!! That little poppet cost $80 and came in a package for two! I asked the parts guy if I could just take one for $40. He replied, "I was hoping you be out of the store before you looked...

IH 863 corn head roller knives

Take the deck plates off. Makes the job much easier. But it's still a slow tedious job to adjust them to the proper clearance. Don't worry about adjusting them to book spec. Get them as close as possible without them hitting each other. Once you get to the field you will be happy you took the...

Problem could very well be in your safety switches too

    CIH 1660...

I will also guarantee that your fan throw out bearing needs to be replaced. They need to be replaced every year. A bad bearing will also cause you to not get full RPMs on your fan. You should get close to 1100 RPM. If you look on your threaded fan adjustment rod there is a block that moves back...

    CIH 1660 worklights

If you're getting power to the relay, I would just run new wires from the relay to the lights. That would be quicker than trying to track down a break in the wire. Plus as old as that combine is, the insulation on the wires is probably cracking and brittle further complicating the process
