    Thursday Tractor Extra 4

Hi Majorman Did this Marshall use a cartridge start system? Former owner of where my family are had one and it used to start with a cartridge. He said that the tractor had no turning brakes and it would take half an acre to turn the thing. Thanks for the pics look forward to these each day.

    Grain drill memory

Hi Eric Here in Australia where we mostly don't grow row crops our winter crops like wheat, barley, canola and grain legumes were mostly planted this way. The machines that were used were called combines because they drilled seed and fertiliser in one pass. Round and round and then do the...

Thanks for the pics Majorman, I really enjoy them. It is great getting older with new technology, makes me feel like a tech dinosaur.

1992 492 Haybine to Roller Knocking

Hi 3020 Got a 492. Will give you some ideas from my experience. Check the clearance between the conditioning rolls. There are thin shims that go between them. Don't let them touch as it will wear out your rolls quickly. Next check any play in the drive universals where they slide on the hex...

    2 ton+ grass with a haybine

Use a 492 in irrigated lucerne, not your problem but had it not cutting well in heavy crop. Talked to a NH rep he suggested speeding up the reel a little, made the world of difference. Don't let your conditioning rollers run together, close but definitely not touching. If you could take the slop...

Can I harvest three fruits at once?

Hi Just throwing this out there. Will the three crops growing together be ready to harvest at the same time? If the grain moisture is way off on one type of grain how will you store it? Might be better to grow three blocks of different grains, manage for best production eg time of planting, and...

    1010 New Holland bale wagon

Hi chase Don't have a 1010 and have never used one. Have a 1034 and a 1038, the 1038 is the nicer and faster to use. You need well formed firm consistent length bales with a quarter turn chute on the baler. A hay shed set up to handle them makes the bale wagon quicker to unload and get back in...

    7700 and 7710 6600 question

Hi pt756 Had a 7700 that had been abused, put a 444t crate engine in it which was a very nice engine which started well when cold. Depending on the tractor if it has not been abused should be a good tractor. Mine had a cab which made any repair work more difficult. Be prepared to keep the idle...

New Holland 10 10 bale wagon bale pickup issues

Hi Arvin Can't really help on the pick up only to say make sure the chain is tight enough so it doesn't hook the strings. With the first table not returning got a 1034 that will do the same thing. Found greasing the trip mechanism under the right hand side of the second table stops this...

    2023.06.25 "Extra" Pic

Hi KCM This looks like an early Howard tractor. He was a farmers son who invented and perfected the rotory hoe, sold as a rotator. One tractor model was called a DH for Daisy Howard has wife, can't remember his name. This happened just North of where I live in Australia. Had one at one time...

    7700 cab rear window

Had a 7700 with a cab which was a local Australian made copy of a British Ford cab, have seen American ones with the vertical split in the rear window. The back window could be removed by undoing the hinges at the top if that type, if you leave the window open make sure the gas struts will hold...

    Knotters

Doesn't Freeman use a different design to NH? Have heard that it doesn't leave the short length of twine when cutting the twine after the knot is formed. Not sure might be worth a look.
