    9n starting problems?

When I first let the clutch out it is popping out of the exhaust real bad. Or if I just pull the throttle lever down too fast it pops real bad. Sounds like a 22 pistol.

    9n starting problems?

Yes, all the old gaskets are off and plug wires are installed correctly. I'll take the distributor back off and re- time it tomorrow. After it backfired a couple times I moved the adjustment tab and it got worse. I'm sure it just needs some tweaking. Thank you!

    9n starting problems?

Hey, I'm working on it right now, after I got it started and running, I put new gaskets on the distributor and changed the oil and now it's backfiring bad! The gasket I put on the distributor cap was cork and a little thicker, would that of pushed the cap out a little too far? When I test...

    9n starting problems?

Thanks for the reply, but I got it running. I ran a jumper wire across the ballast resistor and it fired up the first time I turned it over! Thanks for the help!

    9n starting problems?

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I did find out the square coil is a dummy, I could see the liquid gasket that they used to put the top back on. The good coil is the round one on the side of the tractor. I'll try and put in a new resistor tomorrow. If that doesn't work, do I just connect the two...

    9n starting problems?

Yeah, it was running one day and wouldnt even fire the next. The only thing that was different was the weather. It got really warm up here in Michigan and everything in my pole barn was sweating, thats why I suspected the distributor b/c my gaskets are horrible on the distributor right...

    9n starting problems?

Bruce, Thanks for telling me how to jump the resistor, first turn of the key and it fired up! Thanks for the help!

The tractor is ALIVE!!! I bypassed the resistor and first turn of the key it fired! Thank you for the great advice, I bet I put 30 hours in this trying to figure it out! Thanks again

    9n starting problems?

Awsome, that sounds promising, I'll try that. Although it worked all this time, then all of a sudden no start. How exactly do you bypass the ballast resistor? Thanks!

    9n starting problems?

I don't know what volt coil it is, but I bought a new 12V coil at TSC and didn't get any results. Apparently the square coil is just a wiring point now because it has that plug wire going from it over to the round coil. I tried replacing that as well with no results. Thanks for the help.

    9n starting problems?

Thanks for the reply, yeah I meant to say square coil. I have a square coil that has a plug wire going from it over to a round coil on the side of the tractor. I tried replacing the round coil with no results. I checked the square coil for ohms and am only getting .03 or .04? Maybe cause it's...

    9n starting problems?

Yes, I have a square coil with a plug wire going over to the other round coil on the side of the tractor. I tried replacing the round coil with new, with no results. I haven't checked the compression with a guage but taking a plug out and holding my hand over the hole it sure felt like good...

    9n starting problems?

Gotcha, I pulled them out and heated them up and cleaned them again and nothing changed, no start. I gues I'll go grab another set tomorrow and give it a whirl. I have spark and it's jumping a 1/4" gap to the engine block. Can't believe they are fouled out when they are sparking a 1/4" gap?

    9n starting problems?

I never hold the choke out, or never had to anyway. I let it set for a couple days and come back not using the choke and nothing. This all started a couple days after we got really warm here in Mich and everything in my pole barn was sweating. That was a couple weeks ago and since then...
