DB 990 front crankshaft seal replacement

What did you torque cover bolts to?

DB 990 front crankshaft seal replacement

The timing cover is light enough to be held up by the seal lip and mostly centers when you push in the pulley. I put a bit of upward pressure on the cover and tightened the top center bolt. Thanks for the reassurance. Most likely my leaks were from my UTV gasket maker not sealing at the bottom...

DB 990 front crankshaft seal replacement

What is your preferred way to align the timing cover and/or new crankshaft seal with the pulley? Assuming you don't have the special tool.

    Frozen Hydraulics DB 990

Well, made it through winter. There was enough oil available on the pump side of the filter to lift and lower 3 or 4 bales every weekend before it ran out of available oil. If I had to use the snowblower, it helped get it warmer sooner when I needed to use the hydraulics more than that.

    Frozen Hydraulics DB 990

What do I check on that right rear remote valve? Finally got cold enough to test my oil and filter change. Same problem, but didn't run it more than half an hour. When I replaced oil and filter, I drained case and diff. Also extended cylinders before change and then retracted/drained them fully...

David Brown 990 Power Beyond Manifold

How many rear remotes do you need? I have a 3 way valve on the bucket tilt circuit that ports oil to my baler or haybine lift cylinder. But it's only one circuit and I don't have control of tilt when in use. I too need a better understanding of power beyond which is an option on the valve I put...

DB Case 990 Hyd Oil Change

Going to replace the hydraulic oil in by David Brown 990 Selectamatic. Service manual says to clean parts with "paraffin". Any alternatives? Will Varsol or just plain Kerosene work? I'm also accepting any advice on how to fully drain the system.

rare Cockshutt find .. hay rake

I was using a 311 for the past 6 or 7 years. Solid machine with simple chain drive instead of gearbox. Bought it for $500 CAD. The lift crank nut stripped so I bought an acme nut, drilled out the center to make it a stub acme and set height, then used a 3pth draw bar to adjust height from then...

    NH 55 rake gearbox disassembly

Well, I finally got that gearbox back together. Not that big of a job to convert to grease. Raked about 5 acres yesterday morning. Works great for a 70 year-old implement. I had to bend the "stripper bars" (NH wording) to stop the awful sound of teeth rubbing on them. I used a jack-all...

    NH 55 rake gearbox disassembly

I get ya. It isn't sealed into the gearbox cavity, so then you have to (try to) fill the whole box with grease and then hope some of that grease goes back into the bearings if the seal ever starts leaking (from overpressurizing the zerk, mind you.) The zerk is just a back up for when I don't...

    NH 55 rake gearbox disassembly

Well, it worked to drive it all the way through without taking the snap ring off. Now that the shaft is out, I'm going to take the ring off for ease of reassembly of the gear. I put the new zerk closer to the output end bearing so that it will be further from the frame once assembled. Drilled...

NH 276 baler price in 1973

I think I paid $1500 CAD for one in 2017 and then sold it last year (2024) for about same price in deal with a Stackliner. I replaced a few bearings and seals, but kept it under a roof when not in use. My kids are still upset that I sold it.

    NH 55 rake gearbox disassembly

Is it okay to push the output spindle shaft in through the gearbox through the output bevel gear? I am having trouble getting that snap ring off the shaft, but maybe it can stay on there if I work the other way. I'm worried about scoring the shaft though. I'm working on converting the box to...

Line 479 haybine inner windrower with vinyl?

Yes. Items 1 and 2 the LH and RH shields are bent and cracked up from abuse as though previous owner was haying on a Canadian shield rock pile. I've removed both the main front hinged gate and the rear flap. I think some of the hay is catching on something in there preventing it from reaching...

Line 479 haybine inner windrower with vinyl?

Last year I removed the inner hinged gate panel to try to get it to make clean windrows, but it still drops hay beside the windrow mostly on one side. That hay gets driven on when raking and never gets picked up. I cut low to capture the fescue (prairie wool here) in the meadows which puts the...
