    On again, off again

Okay, we're on again. I removed everything down to the elbow just before the carb. I couldn't see any kind of blockage because, well, it's an elbow. So, I took a piece of wire and gently probed toward the carb. I'm not sure if I dislodged something or not but I reassembled everything and it's...

    I'll do that, Harry. Thanks.

    On again, off again

UPDATE: Off again. What I mean is, I detached the gas line just above the carb and found a steady stream of gas coming through so it must be in the carb or electrical. Now I'm going to check the screen going into the carb, at the elbow. The coil idea is interesting because someone else...

    On again, off again

That makes perfect sense. I didn't think about that but I did use the pint jar. It wouldn't have filled up in a half hour so there must be something plugged. Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep you posted.

    On again, off again

Old, #2 looks very interesting. I'll start there first. If it's not fuel supply, I'll try the spark thing. If it does turn out to be spark, I'll probably have to come back. I spent thirty years in IT as a software developer and I'm very good at trouble shooting. Just not with 80 year old...

    On again, off again

Hello everyone. I have a '42 9N that has been a wonderful tractor. Problem is, recently it has started acting up. It always starts and, at least initially, runs for probably fifteen minutes, sputters and dies. So, I let it sit for a few minutes and repeat the process, and it does the same thing...

Also, sounds like I should probably drain the whole reservoir so I can see better in there(?). Right now I'm only going by feel.

    9N Hydraulics

I felt around in there today with my wife moving the touch control lever moving. I couldn't really feel anything except for the forks moving somewhat. I'm going to keep trying. Stay tuned.

Ultradog, I'm in Brainerd. I think I know exactly where you are talking about on 169. I'll have to stop in and chat with him. Sounds like an interesting fellow.

    9N Hydraulics

Okay, perfect. I did take off the right plate but couldn't feel any movement. Kind of hard to tell because there isn't much room to feel around in there. I'll try the other side and see if that makes any difference. Looks like the wife is going to have to help. Besides, this tractor originally...

    9N Hydraulics

PTO is turning. I took the plate off the right side, as Caryc suggested and the fluid level looks good. I'm not sure how much movement of fluid there should be though when the tractor is running.

504, I do know that. Although, I've been assuming that that means the lever is pushed toward the rear of the tractor. Am I close?

    9N Hydraulics

Hello everyone, I have a dipstick on my tractor. I put in some stuff from Mills Fleet Farm (Upper Midwest) called Tractor Transmission/Hydraulic fluid. I did some research online and chose something recommended by a Jason1PA who has some very good videos on hydraulics. I believe he recommended...

Caryc Excellent. Now I like my tractor again. I'll try that ASAP and let you how it turns out.
