    Make sure you check the condition of the flywheel ring gear while you have it split.

    It's always a good idea to replace the transmission input shaft seal while the tractor is split. That also allows you to use the input shaft as a clutch alignment tool. You also need to be aware that the pressure plate bolts are pretty soft and won't take a lot of torque to break them.

    Clutch adjusting

    Adding free play will make the clutch engage lower within the travel of the pedal. Too much free play and the clutch will not disengage.

    More Bush Hog shear pin issues.

    It sounds like you are using the wrong size bolt. If a 7/16 will fit that is what you should use. If a 1/2 in will fit that is what you should use.
