What to expect from a tractor that’s been sitting for 4 to 5 years

For sure, spray the cylinders with fogging oil before cranking (MY personal choice.) and roll it over by hand BEFORE hitting that starter rod/button. I would also make sure all fluids are right, ESPECIALLY the hydraulic reservoir before running it at all.

Re sealing belt pulley drive rebuild.( Using sealer on the shims ???? Super M part #2)

OK, I got the outer shaft out of the belt pulley drive and pressed all of it apart. (Came to find out the OUTER most bearing had the ball bearings, and race galded badly! ) I have a new bearing, new outer seal, and Speedi Sleeve coming for the outer seal running surface. (It was grooved pretty...

Possibly installing a newer "improved" starter drive. Any opinions here???? ( Super M 6 volt starter on 12 volt system.)

Good advise. The biggest thing I remember like I mentioned below is going from a 31 series diesel HIGH cranking amp battery at about 925/950 CCA, to a smaller car battery that was like 500/550 CCA. It just seemed like I heard that starter drive really "banging in" the flywheel with that high...

Possibly installing a newer "improved" starter drive. Any opinions here???? ( Super M 6 volt starter on 12 volt system.)

I truly appreciate ALL of the input here, seriously! ;) I think what I am going to do is continue to use the low cold cranking amp battery I have in it, and keep what I got. (I had a diesel 31 series battery in it that was like 925+ CCA for awhile and it cranked QUICKLY, and did seem to plant...

Possibly installing a newer "improved" starter drive. Any opinions here???? ( Super M 6 volt starter on 12 volt system.)

I am agreeing with what you are saying, but if you have been following his Moline rebuild, THAT Delco starter armatuer is used in both 6V and 12 V Delco starters. I think I will just use what I have , and keep using a LOW CCA 12 V battery in it. When I had the diesel 31 series High amp battery...

Possibly installing a newer "improved" starter drive. Any opinions here???? ( Super M 6 volt starter on 12 volt system.)

My 53 Super M has been on 12 volts since BEFORE I have owned it, and is using the SAME 6 volt starter it came with originally. I rebuilt awhile back ,and installed a standard starter drive when I did it. I am NOT really having any issues with it since, but have heard you could POSSIBLY break...

Belt pulley reseal. Making a temporary block off plate. (Farmall Super M )

Yea, I have a 20 ton press, and a bearing seperator for sure. I watched a great video on Youtube about a COMPLETE rebuild, but like i have said, I am NOT doing the complete assembly at this time, just the output shaft seal. (I TRULY doubt if I really ever use that flat belt pulley for anything...

Belt pulley reseal. Making a temporary block off plate. (Farmall Super M )

When I am "free rolling" the paper pulley by hand, it is making a distinct grinding noise , and feels VERY rough when turning it but is not binding up, and turns easily. (You can feel a rough bearing like a ball, ot race is bad..) Also, with the 90 wt leaking, so it has to come apart anyway to...

Belt pulley reseal. Making a temporary block off plate. (Farmall Super M )

(I think this is pretty straight forward, but want to get any input/details I might need.) The seal that is right behind the paper pulley is dripping gear grease, and I am going to reseal it. My plan is to just remove the three bolt cover , and pull the outer shaft ONLY, and to not remove the...

Need GOOD spark plug wires to use with Pertronix electronic ignition (Farmall Super M)

Yea, the HUGE reason I changed like I have said is I needed a suppression wire with the Pertronix unit. I have a BEAUTIFUL , brand new set of woven cloth copper wires I cannot use on my tractor now I bought years ago! lol :) The Triumph car wires I bought off of Pertronix fit , and work great...

Farmall Super M Water pump belt length???

I would say I have learned A LOT here ! Thanks for this detailed explanation. ;) You think that the standard measurement system could be maintained between everyone advertising these online, but I understand what has happened over the years.

Farmall Super M Water pump belt length???

Thanks Jim. Strangly, looking up those SAME part numbers shows different measurements on different websights for some odd reason ??? I am wondering if some are measuring the OUTSIDE diameter VS. the INSIDE diameter??? (Got some EBAY sights calling the 16131DA part # a 13/16" X 48" inch belt...

Need GOOD spark plug wires to use with Pertronix electronic ignition (Farmall Super M)

UPDATE: I just installed a set of Pertronix suppression wires ( Bought the ones that fit an old Triumph car 4 cylinder. Fit VERY well.) The thing runs like I had the engine just rebuilt ! LOVE the Pertronix products! Thanks for all of the suggestions I will be ordering from the Brillman...

Farmall Super M Water pump belt length???

Hey, I am seeing the 13/16 water pump drive belts being listed as BOTH 48" inch, and some are saying 46.37 inch. What is the correct belt to get??? (My belt has been painted over in IH red for several decades now, and I cannot remove it at this time to actually measure it... :( ) Also, is...
