Is it easy to install a tubed tire on a two piece wheel?

I have a 1948 Shaw Duall that I ordered new front tires for. I had a tire shop remove the old tires but after looking at the wheels it looks more simple than I thought. The wheels split perfectly in half and are bolted together. It looks like all I have to do is put the tire on one half and...

Favorite material for making new gaskets?

I?m restoring a 1948 Shaw Duall R-6 and currently in the process of replacing all gaskets and seals. All the original gaskets are paper for everything. In the past I?ve used cork, the heavy black paper, and gasket maker in the tube. I?m sure I?ll probably get as many answers as comments, but I?m...

Where do you go to get new tubes in tractor tires?

I have a 1960 John Deere 430 with calcium filled tires, and the calcium is leaking out and ruining the rims. The tires are still in good shape, so I want the fluid drained, tires dismounted, new tubes installed, tires remounted, and filled with something less corrosive. I don?t know what...

Is there a way to save the dry rotted tires on my tractor?

That?s a good idea jacking it up. I don?t know how long it sat for, but when I first bought it I had to drag the thing about 100 yards before the wheels started spinning, so it sat flat for awhile but obviously that damage can?t be reversed, but I sounds like wheel paint might make it look...

Is there a way to save the dry rotted tires on my tractor?

I have a 1948 Shaw Duall R-6 that I plan to restore and it has Firestone Champion Ground Grip rear tires which have cracks around the sidewalls mainly from sitting flat and hold air for only a very short period of time. I would love to keep them because the tread is 95% and they no longer...

How to free a rusted/gelled transmission?

Yea I mean it's really sticky, makes your fingers stick. When I drug it home the thing was locked even with the clutch disengaged, about halfway home the it finally broke free. I bet that was the gears being stuck even while in neutral

How to free a rusted/gelled transmission?

I bought a shaw duall R-6, a project tractor that hasn't been used in decades. The transmission is all gelled up. I was able to loosen up the shift forks, but I can't get the gears to slide. Any tips?

How to restore a rare tractor with a blown engine?

Update: I started working on the tractor and it looks to be better than I though. All the engine parts are complete, and the engine spins freely. I am working on pulling the engine now, so I can clean it up and replace gaskets. It supposedly had low compression, so I'm going to take the...

How to restore a rare tractor with a blown engine?

I ended up buying it for $400. There is definitely going to be some work to do, because the transmission has issues too. I think it's the clutch, because it was stuck in gear and even with the clutch in the wheels weren't spinning when I drug it. It eventually broke free but it's still an issue

How to restore a rare tractor with a blown engine?

Restored could mean anything though. They could have simply repainted it. I'll have to post in a Briggs and Stratton forum, because there's probably other motors that have parts that cross reference and are available

How to restore a rare tractor with a blown engine?

It's in PA and I can get it with the mower and plow for $450. The rest of the motor is all in a box, and the hood comes with it too. The only other thing wrong with it is the one tire has a hole in it, probably from sitting awhile on a flat. Obviously though I would still need to find new engine...

How to restore a rare tractor with a blown engine?

I had someone off me a Shaw DuAll R6, I believe a 1948 or 1949. They're relatively rare to begin with, and it's in original (and decent) condition. It also has a mowing deck that's made out of metal and wood (the wood isn't even rotted), and a snow plow, which are two implements I can't even...
