    1952 MM U tractor restoration

I have a '53 UB and bought some paint a number of years ago from a local PPG automotive shop that matched pretty well. I may still have some in the basement and can give you some details if that is of interest. I believe it is a two or three part paint with a hardener and diluent to make it...

    Well I joined the club

Check out the Pete Little mufflers. They are a quality part and reduce engine noise to a pleasant level. The others I have tried are little more than a straight pipe.

Original oil filter v Currently available for UB

According to the WIX website, the 51111 filter has been discontinued. The replacement is 57511, which appears to be a "sock-type" filter. I am staying with the Henry Leasing canister-type for now.

Try Henry Leasing in Bakersfield, CA. Henry Leasing & Manufacturing Co. LLC | 661-395-3027. That is where I got mine. They had a good supply earlier in the year.

    Another project

The spirit of the machine is still there! Needs some TLC, which you can provide.

Original oil filter v Currently available for UB

Just a few pictures of the original MM oil filter for the '53 UB next to the replacements that are currently available. The newer ones are a bit smaller in diameter and a tad shorter, but seem to work OK. I have one of the newer ones in the UB now. No apparent issues.

    Trx -12 carburator

Just the normal stuff: Make sure you have a wide enough screwdriver tip to match the entire width of the seat. I like using a screwdriver with a tee handle for better torque. A few sharp impacts with a hammer usually helps. Plenty of penetrating chemicals. Take your time. If all else fails...

    Oil Filter pics MM UB

The oil filter adapter is an odd sized part. The filter side for the UB is 1 1/8-16 thread. The other end is 11/16-16. Odd size. You probably will not find one apart from those that offer them specifically for the MM U-types on eBay, for example. They get plenty for them.

Talked to Pete Little today. Still makes MM mufflers!

Some fine looking machinery there! Stanley may make some quieter mufflers than the MM-4, which I had on the UB. When you look down the barrel of the MM-4 muffler, there are no baffles, per se. It looks and sounds like a straight pipe. The Pete Little muffler was more expensive, but meets my...

Talked to Pete Little today. Still makes MM mufflers!

Put the new Pete Little muffler on the UB today. This replaces the MM-4 Stanley muffler. The Pete Little muffler is just what I was looking for. Engine noise is pleasant. Not too loud. Check out this muffler if you are not happy with the other brands.

So here is what I am going to try for the '53UB. One is the spin-on type and uses an adapter. The other is supposed to be a direct replacement for the original canister-type filter. Have not tried either, but will soon and follow with observations.

Talked to Pete Little today. Still makes MM mufflers!

Thanks for the reply. I am anxiously waiting for mine to arrive for the UB. The "Stanley brand" muffler is just too loud. Not much better than running a straight pipe. Don't want to have to wear hearing protection when using the tractor.

Talked to Pete Little today. Still makes MM mufflers!

Yes, he is still around and active. He closed his Little Shop some years ago and then joined a White Dealer. He stopped doing that and now is making mufflers and perhaps other parts for Moline tractors. He said that when he fully retires, he hopes to have a successor to the muffler-making...

Muffler for UB that actually reduces exhaust noise?

Correction: Mr. Little IS still making mufflers for MM. See separate post.
