860 jumps out of 3rd gear!

I have worked around it for some time, but in doing grading or box blade where you might go 3rd / reverse, 3rd/reverse, a couple times, if it starts jumping out of gear it gets frustrating. Using a bush hog I use 2nd a lot and it avoids the problem altogether. Thanks for your input.

860 jumps out of 3rd gear!

Thanks so much for the replies. I'll pull the top cover when I split it for the clutch this week. When I first got the tractor about 3 years ago and pulled the top cover shifter plate. the gears all looked good at the time. I'm hoping it's the detent you speak of. I love the tractor, it's a real...

860 jumps out of 3rd gear!

I have a '55 Ford 860 5 speed - Double Clutch. I bought it about 3 years ago and every once in a while it would jump out of 3rd gear. Sometimes on takeoff and sometime on deceleration it would just slip out of gear. All the other gears all work good, 1 thru 5 and reverse, it is just 3rd gear...

FORD 860 ALLEN BOLTS UNDER DISTRIBUTOR

Thanks ErnieD. I tightened them as tight as I could from the outside and they are not seeping oil now. I know there is an oil galley in that outside protrusion in the block, I just hope the bolts are tight enough so the pump doesn't suck air. I heard of one guy that had a pump come loose and...

FORD 860 ALLEN BOLTS UNDER DISTRIBUTOR

Thank you. I was afraid of that. I was aggravated at myself for not being able to find the 2 bolts through research. After Dan told me what their function was, I went back to the manual and looked at the 'Oil Pump' directions. The book said to remove the nuts and tap the bolts out of the block...

FORD 860 ALLEN BOLTS UNDER DISTRIBUTOR

Thanks a lot. I had a slight oil leak at one of them. I started to take one out to see if I could seal it. As I started to back it out, I got that squirrely feeling and stopped. I ran it the other way and it eventually tightened. I tried to find out in the book but could not find anything...

FORD 860 ALLEN BOLTS UNDER DISTRIBUTOR

1955 860. On the right side of the engine, under the distributor, there is a hump in the block casting. Under that hump are 2 allen-head or socket-head bolts (not the small ones, the larger ones) Might be 5/16. What are those for? I checked my manual and looked in the search function, but cannot...

    OT---Compromised Credit Card

If you have a true 'Debit Card' and not just a bank ATM card, your debit card should be protected by Visa or Mastercard, same as a credit card.

Ebay feedback. Who first ,poll ? buyer or the seller-

I would think it's appropriate to leave feedback once the transaction is complete. I had a situation where I purchased a part from Tasca Ford. They delivered on time and it was the correct part and all. They left me positive feedback. I then asked to return the item, which they agreed to. I'm...

Block and tackle or something else?

It looks like the center pin is removable from the pulleys of the OP's original picture. If that is the case, both of these pulleys can be utilized as snatch blocks.
