John Deere switched filters and it doesn't look good.

I have a JD 5105 and have seen at least 3 different hydraulic filters advertised to fit. The last ones I bought were same physical size and micron filtering media in JD marked and logoed boxes from India. Cost 1/3 JD over the counter price. FWIW

    Hay Un roller Companion Project

This 'design' is mostly superseded by the 'inline' design that carries the bales end to end and rolls them off in a row.

    Hit by a Drunk drivers

"After wreck drunk got out of his car and walked into mini-mart to get a drink," That's the typical CYA for DWI. Suck down as much alcohol as possible after the accident and before cops arrive. Breath-a-lizer results are altered and by the time blood can be drawn, there's no proof of WHEN the...

    Parts guy blues

^^^Good point but I seriously doubt it happens that way. I've walked in with a part number from the diagrams and parts guy starts from scratch looking it up himself.

    Parts guy blues

Not buying it. JD parts guy is paid to do this. And BTW, none of those part numbers are actually on the parts. Yes, had I taken the old parts to the dealership, I would have compared them at the counter.

    John Deere 720 Pull Start

Back in the 60's, I mowed hay an entire season with a 1949 B John Deere that had nothing but a 'gravity starter'. Just make sure the hill was steep enough.

    Cordless impact wrench

I had an extremely upsetting incident with Milwaukee batteries. Bought 2 brand new and neither would charge. Returned to Milwaukee service center and they just said "No warranty". No real explanation or justification. Without much choice, I bought 2 more OTC so I had a receipt. Guess we'll...

    Parts guy blues

Well, aren't you the snarky one. The 'guy behind the counter' had the original part IN HIS HAND. How is it my fault that he couldn't figure it out? Which of these is not like the other?

    Hay equipment

Owning, maintaining, and storing a mower conditioner and square baler is overkill for 6-10 acres of hay. JD 350 sickle bar mower is one of the best. I ran two of them for several years before older Son left home. We baled around 250 acres at that time. Replaced those with a Hesston hydra-swing...

    Parts guy blues

I'm still working on the 5105 project tractor. As far as looking up part numbers: I do that when I have time. In this case, shop manager at the dealership said she'd pull a tech off baler tune up to work on the couplers if I had them there in an hour.

    Hay equipment

Depending on your intentions and/or need for the hay, you might be better off renting out the hay ground.

    Parts guy blues

I guess the days of walking into a dealership and buying p[arts has gone the way of the DoDo bird. Sent Grouch Attack to the nearest JD dealer with a pair of SVC outlets that were stuck(tractor left sitting 3 years) and needing disassembly and cleaning/repair. Hour later, phone buzzes: Hey...

    Hit by a Drunk drivers

If YOUR tractor was insured by YOUR insurance provider, let your insurance provider deal with the 'at fault' driver's insurance company on the value of the tractor. Insurance companies pay big bucks to their lawyers which you in turn pay by way of your premiums. Many years back, a drunk driver...

    QD keeps disconnecting

Those 'QD' connections can and will wear which may allow the female to release with very little effort. QD couplers aren't expensive so replace them. The comment about the short bend is valid as it puts more side load on the release connection.

How good is used farm equipment selling around you?

Anything in the 'weekend/hobby farmer' or 'food plot' categories is holding up as long as it works properly and can be loaded onto a trailer. Some interest in 'yard ornament' type stuff. Medium sized (60-80 horsepower) stuff isn't as good. City doods can't haul it on a 6000# trailer behind...
