There aren’t any obstructions in the fuel system are there? Might want to check all lines, filter(s) And fuel pickup. But if it is running rich, I doubt this is the problem. (If running rich, exhaust will smell thickly of gas, and might be a bit smoky). Also check all air hoses for...- Mr Man

Taking the exhaust off won’t hurt it a bit, though it will make less power. (Not a problem in this case)- Mr Man
