    Auction find

I used one back in 1972 and 1973 in High School. I went to a local junior college part time for 4 years while farming and milking cows starting in 1985. There was a large slide rule hanging above the blackboard in the Physics room. I asked some of my fellow students if they knew what it was...

I still have a Bobcat 610 loader; I just had a bucket cylinder rebuilt because it blew a seal when moving some gravel,

New Holland 77 baler in action.....

The neighbor had one of these. My brother and I helped him bale hay for several years. They made a good solid bale.

For those who "don't do fractions ".

Decades ago when I was growing up a neighbor kid purchased a motorcycle that used metric bolts. The previous owner obviously owned no metric wrenches. The neighbor kid said in his slow drawl, " there are two sizes on his motorcycle; vise grip size and hammer and chisel size."

    Square baler loose knot problem

I once had a dull twine knife that did something similar. It did not completely cut the twine and the few strands left pulled the knot apart when tying leaving a partial loose knot loop.

    odd ball tractors

When I was growing up a guy with a Wards tractor pulled in the tractor pull at the Stephenson County fair. He always placed well.

    4320 John Deere adding oil

Years ago after my uncle Floyd (a mechanic of many decades) had the injector pump repaired on my 4320, oil level kept rising. Turned out he had messed up the umbrella seals. He said that never happened before. That would be my guess.

In praise of LED lighting for older tractors!

Several decades ago I finished planting a field after milking with my 1946 JD A and a JD 490 corn planter. My brother drove alongside with his car so I could see where I was going. I could have used LEDs that night!

Things you don't like about Wal Mart.

We had one of those in our ag shop in high school. It was called a Bradley. Once in a while our teacher would come in with wet pants because somebody had opened the valve a little too much and the water would squirt over the basin resulting in wet pants. So he made a little cover over the valve...

    New shed is done

Always fun to put up a new building and then get to use it. Seems like it is always too small when you start to put stuff into it! Looks great!

    Mounted corn pickers

Unlike some of the other stories I would prepare our 1946 JD A and mount our JD 227 picker when I was 16 years by myself in 3 days after school. I got home from school just after 4 and had to start doing chores and milking 20 cows at 5:30. This included switching the rear wheels to make them...

    Silo for Saturday

When I was in High School in the early 70's we would watch the 4 Star Farmers in FFA movies from several different years.. One year the one region Star Farmer (I think in New York) had built a stave silo from wood in their wood lot for the staves. That was the first wood stave silo I had ever...
