    Won’t run with new governor

Just going to share my experience. The governor on my 8N had the face sanded. It wasn't even so someone laid it on sand paper and ran it across a few times. Tractor was squealing bad. I added a second gasket and problem solved. Sounds and runs amazing now.

    8N bendix stuck

Ring gear looked and felt good. I'll spin it. I'm just going to replace the starter. It's old and came apart.

    8N bendix stuck

I took out the plugs, took a pipe wrench and turned the starter just enough to make it move. Then I rocked tractor in 4th gear a couple times - not even hard- and I heard it come free. I saw it was loose, so I rocked two more times, again not hard, and it came loose enough to slide out. I...

    8N bendix stuck

My 8N was running great but I hadn't used it in a few weeks due to winter. I went to start it and it just clicked. I knew that click - it was the starter. I tapped on it and it spun just a little and stopped. So I went to take the starter off to re align it and it was stuck. I didn't realize it...

    8N whining

It was the governor. I bought some gaskets and put three on it to account for the cover being sanded on face and no morewhining.

    8N whining

It's the governor. I took it off and started it just long enough to listen and no whine. SO it's 1 of 2 things - 1. Bad bearings 2. When the case was sanded down it offset things. So I'll get some gaskets and a rebuild kit, It's getting plenty of oil.

    8N whining

You may reread what I wrote to them. They told to buy a stethoscope but didn't suggest a list of parts to start on. This is where compartmentalization is key - telling me to buy the tool and explaining how and where to use the tool are two different things. They essentially suggested to just...

    8N whining

Thanks. I have't pulled it off yet. The face of the cover wasn't smooth and wasleaking so the person before me rubbed it over sand paper. It might be rubbing now because the case isn't as tall. I'll pull it off, make usre oil squirts when turning fan, make sure it looks like it all got oil, then...

    8N whining

It's definately not the alternator and not the fan. When I put a screw driver to governor I hear it clearly.

    8N whining

Yeah all that is good. Seems to be coming from governor.

    8N whining

It would help to know what a "stator" is and how to indicate it is going bad. @OldBlue61 This sounds more like you hijacking the thread to talk about an issue personal to you. @Ed S. This is vague? Go buy a mechanic's stethoscope and just randomly touch it to different parts fo the tractor...

    8N whining

How would I know? It's a new alternator.

    8N whining

My tractor is whining up front. The alternator is tight. I even put a ratchet strap and tightened it just enough I couldn't spin alternator fan by hand. I didn't do it an insane amount. Jus enough and started tractor and test. Still whined. Gave it some slack - like somewher under half inch of...

Do the wires on the wire block need to be in a set order - 8n?

Done. Still no sound when pressing start button. Was working fine before wires came off block. What's next?

Do the wires on the wire block need to be in a set order - 8n?

Useless answer. "one small wire". Tells me so much. Thanks.
