    Tires 1951 8n

Those a re little too big for the front. I bought a set of 19" 3-rib tires and tubes through Amazon. Amazon Tires. They are round, hold air, and look good. They were $15 cheaper a few months ago though.

    overfilled & not overjoyed

I plan to refill with this once I get the sump drained completely.

    9n surging

:D What a great idea! I have struggled over the years finding pieces of this-n-that to clear various small passages like carb jets. Thanks for mentioning that.

    overfilled & not overjoyed

The rest of the juice will be coming out soon from the three bottom plugs. What's in there now seems very thick at 42degF and I want to replace it with TSC Traveller Premium Tractor Sauce.

Actually, the fluid that came out was relatively clean without sludge or condensation. I suspect what might have happened is that someone only partially drained the sump - only opened one drain? - but gave it a full 5 gallon refill.

    overfilled & not overjoyed

Add me to the list of victims of an overfilled trans/hydraulic sump. I just drained an extra 3+ gallons of fluid out through the bottom bolt of the left side cover of a new to me '49 8N. Yep, it was filled to the point that fluid weeped out the top of the trans dipstick tube. This certainly...

    Removing/Replacing Hood on 2N

Let me add to this and say that most people don't realize how useful one of those "engine hoists" is until they have one in their shop. Especially if you work alone, you will find the crane very helpful for all sorts of things. I swapped many engines in and out of cars and trucks using one arm...

    "Hybrid" electrical system?

Good point. I forgot to mention that the battery is wired with a negative ground. The ammeter does seem to show charge when the engine is revved a bit over idle. It's easy enough to flash the generator and change its polarity. That may have happened accidentally.

    "Hybrid" electrical system?

My new-to-me '49 8N (226847) has a strange electrical system configuration. The PO only had the tractor for a year and sold it because his wife wouldn't drive it (to mow a few acres of weeds). He told me it needed a new battery and didn't know if it was 12V or not. It was obvious that it had a...

    8N Steering Wheel Repair

Thanks for the comments guys. I think I might try to fix the rim cover with JB Weld epoxy putty since I have a good bit left over from some window repair work. I don't plan to restore the tractor so a brand new wheel might look out of place. My ultimate goal is to clean it up, tune it up, fix...

    8N Steering Wheel Repair

Hi All, I bought a working '49 8N a few weeks ago and am starting to make a few repairs. Is the steering wheel pictured below worth saving? I can repair the cracked cover with epoxy filler but the area that is completely missing would be a challenge to build up from nothing...
