Have I shortened my lawn tractor life?

If you are not working your tractor unreasonably hard and not overheating the engine while having clean, good quality oil in it, I don't think the increased RPM will do any significant harm. It's likely in good condition now, after 30 years, even if you were to reduce the life span by 10% it's...

    Vacuum brake booster ‘97 Lesabre

Quote: Yes, it passes those two checks. How about symptoms of master cylinder failure. For me it has always been 1) leaking at piston on back. 2) Pedal fade when brakes are held applied, in this case sometimes the fade will stop under heavy brake application but present at a more noticeable...

FMJ magneto with no marking on the gear

I've had some of them like that too. You'll see a little tab on the side wall where #1 should fire (with the cap off), the rotor will appear to be slightly past the contact for #1, maybe by 1/8" to 3/16" once the coupling has snapped and the points just opened. This has worked every time for me...

About to use POR-15 Fuel Tank sealer in my 706

I guess everyone determines their level of perfection when doing remedies to old tractors. If it would be my tank for that age tractor I would fix any holes from the outside, as that may still give many years of trouble free service. Having filtration that can handle impurities without quickly...

Adding a hydraulic breaker to Case 680E backhoe

If you have no success going to the Case dealer for a valve segment and you live in the US, you should be able to get a whole valve bank for an extendahoe that is being wrecked out. For the age of these machines they have to be around?? You might even come across another 680E, G or H with the...

About to use POR-15 Fuel Tank sealer in my 706

I've been through an event with internal gas tank sealer on a tractor I bought. With the mess and consequences I would not go that route myself except possibly pouring in fiberglass. I only do tank repairs from the outside. I've had great results from Permatex tank repair in multiple...

Adding a hydraulic breaker to Case 680E backhoe

I think Fritz has very good input. I'm now on my third Case 680, currently the H model, my first one was the 680E. While not exactly practical, but if you have a third valve for the front bucket to handle a clam/4 in one bucket you could try using that valve bank. It would involve longer hoses...

201 - No oil pressure update

I don't know if there was a year when the tooth count was changed in the 201 engine. These 201's, in the tractor and the donor engine, both had 11 teeth on the camshaft and 10 teeth on the drive for the oil pump. This is confirmed in the parts book, part # U-3100.

201 - No oil pressure update

You know I wondered the same about the rod bearings... because it had no knock whatsoever, it turned over ever so easy with the crank, I decided NOPE, I'm leaving the rod bearings alone. I knew I was taking a chance and it turns out the oil pressure is very good, so it looks like I'm out of the...

201 - No oil pressure update

A long time ago I was puzzled over no oil pressure in my '51 A-C 201 with no oil pressure. I will share what I found. It turns out that several teeth were broken and the remaining ones extremely cupped and worn down on the camshaft, as you can see in the picture. Very interesting to find the...
