    mf65 oil smoke

Thank you for your help, David. It seems to be the only answer we can come up with here, also. The only thing I can't understand is the good compression numbers. Oh well, I'm only into this tractor for $300, it's worth a risking a little more. Thanks again to everyone who helped out. Fred

    mf65 oil smoke

Thanks Evan and David. Pulled the sleeves to replace the o-rings. Reinstalled original pistons to sleeves. Rod bearings were .020 over. Did not remove crank or piston rings from pistons. Know that is not the right way to do it, but wasn't sure water in oil issue was fixed. Thanks again, Fred

    mf65 oil smoke

Good thought, Matt, but I have been running it without any airfilter for now. Only temporary. used a new head gasket and rebuilt the oil pump. I don't think lack of oil pressure is my problem. Just can't keep it all inside!

    mf65 oil smoke

Matt and Eric, thanks for the replies. Plugs were oil coated and oil is seeping out around the plugs. Did not replace valve guides. Did replace intake and exhaust gasket. Currently has 10w30 oil.Not sure of oil press., as gauge is broken. Thinking vacuum leak could be causing full choke issue...

    mf65 oil smoke

Hello, I have a g176 gas motor that smokes bad. How bad, you ask? The first time I ran it after putting the motor back together, some one called the fire department, reporting my house was on fire! And the tractor was in the driveway. Compression chk is 165 in all cylinders. Checked valve...

    #1 cylinder

mf65 with g176 continental engine. Is the #1 cylinder by the fan or at the back of the engine? Have seen both answers here. Bought a manual, but is pretty worthless on the gas model.Thank you, Fred

    Anti-freeze in oil

Thanks to everyone for their comments and help. I have hardly any money into this tractor so far. Good tires, sheetmetal and loader, so worth putting a little effort into. Not to mention a good excuse for my 17 year old and I to work together. Tried some sealant from NAPA, and it stopped the...

    Anti-freeze in oil

I have a 1959 mf 65 gas tractor with anti-freeze in the oil pan. Just got the tractor, with no history on it. Compression chk on cylinders is 150 for the front 3, 135 for back one, leaked down 30 lbs in 10 minutes. Is there a way to isolate the leak prior to tearing engine apart? If the block is...

    ford 4500 tlb no start

Thanks, Ultradog. Will try taking the cover off next week. Is there anything I have to worry about flying off when the cover comes off? That seems to make the most sense, considering no reaction to numerous ether shots. Fred

    ford 4500 tlb no start

Thanks Jim. Not to rub it in, but it was 70 degrees here in CO yesterday. There is very little fuel squirting out at the injector lines. With the truck tied to the battery, it seems to be spinning ok. What I don't get is that spraying ether directly into the manifold does not get any reaction...
