    confused over coils

A basic understanding of electricity, voltage, magnetism, and resistance takes a lot of confusion out of the equation. It also helps tremendously to know how to use a multimeter, particularly the voltage and ohms functions. A multimeter takes something invisible and makes it visible. A basic...

    confused over coils

Don't think my comments on 6 volt coil labeled no ballast required, was taken seriously. Plus comment on using bosh motorcycle 6 volt coil was dismissed as foolish. The first item should be taken seriously. If new coil is mislabeled as no ballast resistor required, a burned up new coil and...

    confused over coils

Ran into the same question after buying a 6 volt coil at TS. Seems at times meanings get lost or confused in translation in country of manufacture. My 6 volt coil also said no external resistor required. Using above listed resistance readings for a 6 volt coil, found it was just a standard 6...

Tape or Thread Dope on Hydraulic Connections?

Had an instructor years ago tell us teflon tape was to ease threading of connection. Not designed as a sealant. Anyone else out there hear the same info?

    Number of people?

Seems that for the most part, stuff other than cream rises to the top these days. Self worshiping, self promoting, unkind, thoughtless folks. Run with the dogs or sit on the porch? Safe places? Are we talking old tractors and equipment, or All Star Wrestling posing takes? Wish we could meet...

    carburetor

Many times just removing the spark plugs will tell you if you have a cylinder leaking coolant. The one's not leaking will look like normal used sparkplugs, maybe even a bit sooty if idled a lot. The one or ones leaking coolant will look scrubbed clean with a new look to them. 1st thought on...

When it is time to retire!!!!

I know every financial advisor will say work till your 70 or 75 because the average male in America lives beyond 85. At 60 I was the oldest living male in my extended family. And even though I've tried to take good care of myself well.... you never know. My Father passed at 60, my cousin at 64...

Old men driving people away from things!!!

Guess I'm in the old guy bracket. Guess i'm also a bit dense, slow, insensitive? I don't read every post in this forum, just the one's that interest me. Don't remember reading anything grumpy, or insulting. Seems definitions of common words have changed in a short amount of time. With the desire...

Learned something today I never noticed before

Hmmm.... always thought correct screw or bolt application was correct tightness or torque. Seems lining up screw slots gets in the way of that. Same as the screws that hold the wire in place. Neat concept, I'll just keep with correct tightness instead of where lines line up.

TEN WORST tractors ever ..... a video

also grew up on Farmall Diesel 560. We had the TA worked on once. Have read on other sites that some 560's had final drive issues when first released, but were recalled. Back in the sixtys we farmed 240 acres with it. Dad used it till he passed away in ninety two. Thought it was a great tractor...

John Deere 1953 Model 40- Steering almost locked up

Has been my experience that once a topic moves to page 2 so quickly its a dead topic. Will try taking my parts manual to the local dealership. See if they have any info. Wish me luck.

John Deere 1953 Model 40- Steering almost locked up

Must not have made myself clear. Those parts have been removed and are no longer on the tractor. The only parts that remain are the two parts that are inside the pedestal and remain unseen. The worm gear is gone. Tie rods removed from pedestal. Nothing remains or is attached to the above...
