641 6 volt coil question
As for it working, I can't say for how long. All I've done is start it to see if the circuits were correct. It would start and run fine on a full 12 volts though. How long? I doubt very long without burning the points. Right now, it is sitting in the barn with the hood off and I'm waiting... -

I can't say, but I can say is that the one I got looks exactly like the one in your picture. YT Label reads: Coil Resistor, New, Ford, 8NE103 It also says it is made in India. Oh yeah, YT also says ASAP#105710 & PC#:RB1001 Mfg Dt : December 25 -

If I understand it correctly, all I have to do is reverse the low tension wires. I've already done that and it starts and runs fine -

How many ohms is it? I'm not trying to start an argument, I want to know. YT says .8 ohms. That doesn't seem like enough. -

I didn't buy the complete kit as I have plenty of alternators lying around. I did buy two of the resistors and one coil with a resistor. As close as I can tell they measure about .8 ohm. Definitely less than one. I don't think that is enough. I'll see. My 961 has one of those resistors and... -

Huh? Model T Fords were negative ground - after they got electric starters. Ford switched to positive ground with the Model A's. I have a 29 Chevy that is negative ground. I'm pretty sure that GM was always negative ground. -

I hear ya, but I was more interested in the way it was marked. If this coil was put on a '53 Chevy, and hooked up the way it was marked, it wouldn't be correct as Chevy was negative ground. I wonder if NAPA would sell you a different coil in 1953 for a Chevy than a Ford. I was to young in... -

I'm in the process of converting my 641 to 12 volt after my 6 volt battery went kapoot. I took the coil off to just clean all the oil and dirt off of it and found that the two low volt connectors are labeled Dist. & Bat. I have never had much reason to pay attention to the coils on my stuff... -

Anti-freeze
You are correct, You're the first person I've ever seem mention that. Years ago, I had a JD A. I dumped in the antifreeze and filled it up with water ans started it up. It soon boiled. I drained the radiator and poured it back in and no problem.- ole fred

My 6 volt battery quit and I feel this is a good time to switch to 12 volt. I have gobs of 10DN's and regulators, so the alternator isn't a problem. A pulley? I can come up with a correct one from somewhere. The solenoid? That is my question. Will the 6 volt solenoid hold up with 12 volts... -
